New immigration process.....
New immigration process.....
Not sure where to post this or if this is old news but,
I am on a marriage visa and have just visited Udon immigration to get my yearly renewal and have been told that I basically have to redo my original application, that consists of providing family photos, map to my current address, witness to my living there with my wife (neighbour basically has to accompany us to immigration with their house documents), we will also get a visit to our house from immigration or police i'm not sure. My wife and I have been married for 11 years so I do not think there will be any exceptions to this and I think this ties in with having only the option to use immigration offices in the area that you live. The woman also told my wife that they have knowledge of fake marriages in the Udon Thani area.
I will update after my second visit.

Re: New immigration process.....
A check on Thaivisa will show this has been in place for sometime, tho it seems as you say, since having to report to specified offices the situation has become more enforced.
I am hoping to change from retirement to marriage on my next extension I would be grateful if you could list the requirements for a marriage extension at Udon. Thanks in anticipation.

Tafia, there was a limited post before re marriage http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/topic16309.html
Popping into Udon Immigration is your best bet if you here at the moment, the photos and witness will be required on every yearly renewal.

Re: New immigration process.....
I have a friend, who was on a "marriage visa" for a five years. He went in to Immigration mid-June to renew. The Immigration Officer told him he met the qualifications for a "retirement visa" and why didn't he just get that? My friend said "ok, I'll take it". Bada-bing-bada-boom, in and out in 30 minutes.
I have heard, though I can't substantiate it, Immigration just doesn't like to issue "marriage visas", "too mush work" involved?
If you can qualify for the "retirement"...go for it.

I did ask the officer where all the requirements were listed and she said it's all on the Thai immigration web site. So I will just list what we are putting together but I would advise checking the site to be sure. One thing wrong and it's start over including new bank statement and bank book updated and passport re photocopied.
So the list is:
1.Three current photos of your accomodation with both partners in them together. 2 copies of each. (We were shown an example with a couple outside the house and two inside the house in different rooms.) Tesco do a quick digital transfer to physical prints for about 5 or 10 baht each I think.
2. A neighbour or someone living in your street with house book document and ID to accompany you to immigration and verify you are what you say you are.
3.Bank statemement of that day and bank book update of that day that will show you have had the required amount 400k or monthly income to the amount they require for the last 3 months. 2 Photo copies of each.
Ok this is where I get confused, we were told our bank book update was no good because of gaps in months before update so my wife tells me we need to be updating our bank book every month because they want to see the detailed workings of your deposits and withdrawels with gaps of no more than 2 months.
4.House book original and 2 photo copies.
5.Passport + 2 photocopies of every page of the passport
6.A drawn map of the route to your house from the immigration building(Airport). Meaning a visit of some sort is my guess.
Then the final part is quite simple you just have to do a few cart wheels and jump through a few hoops whilst whistling "I'm a lumberjack and I know how"
Oh and most importantly I asked if we would be required to do all this again next year (photos) and she said yes!!
Hope that helps, i'm back tommorow, wish me luck.

Re: New immigration process.....
Thanks Guys,
I can qualify for the retirement on income providing the £ is 49+ otherwise a combination is required. I don't want to hold too much cash over here hence the pension route, by changing to a marriage extension the £ will have to dip to about 34 to the £ before I needed cash as well, just an economic thing really. Pension is index linked so the figures will go up in time providing the £ remains on the up :-"
Jumping thro the hoops is just one of those things you have to live with and so I'm content to do that to meet the requirements, one of those things.
I will keep reviewing, have a time to go (Aug) got my last extension on retirement (combination).
Good Luck Thai-tan..tho Im sure its just a formality now.

OT went to the Thai Consulate in Kampala, which is located above a car tyre/battery shop, to get his mutiple entry type "O" visa. The staff at the embassy asked me who was sponsoring my trip, I said, what?, anyway I showed them the procedure and got the visa. I don't think they had ever done a visa like it before.

Re: New immigration process.....
Sorry forgot to mention wifes id details and childrens if you have them.
The link from pompui has a good run down of the requirements topic16309.html if they are still current.
As for hoops i'll keep jumping them it just worries me a bit that that they keep increasing in numbers year on year.
Also, just curious, if anyone who has been through this process recently actually received a visit, I did on my first application 9 years ago or so but it was a police visit and at that time I was required to actually report into the police station, just wonder who they send now.

Re: New immigration process.....
anyone applying for the retierment stamp and the 90 day check should think about getting a yellow house book. . if you have the book plus a photo copy of course there are no need for maps, photos ,interviews, visits to your home. early this year i finaly got the retirement stamp in my passport , it took about 15 mins, the only question i was asked was what todays exchange rate was and the wife was not asked a single question.

Re: New immigration process.....
Hi Guys,
Sorry if I am missing something re retirement visa which will occur next year hopefully. People talk about yellow books and photos in your house etc, but what if your not in a home in your name. I am currently still residing at the mother in laws and building is a plan further down the track.

Re: New immigration process.....
kevro , when you try to get the retired visa the immigration want proof of where you live. as you will have read many bring maps of the location of the home and photos in and around the home. i have a yellow house book an official document that i live at this address. immigration accept this as proof of home. you will find more imformation on the house book on this forum. sorry if their any spelling mistakes but my spell checker fails to check.
Re: New immigration process.....
Thanks Hey You,
thought maybe that yellow house applied to owned residenses. If other is OK then I better get a yellow house book in anticipation of the big day.

Re: New immigration process.....
Lets please get this straight, there is no need need to provide a "yellow house book" to get either a retirement visa or marriage visa, never has been. I have lived here for 14 years and it has not been part of the requirements. That's not to say it won't be in the future but not at present.

Re: New immigration process.....
Given that the process described by the OP is not new, perhaps the thread title needs amending so as not to cause undue concern to casual readers. =D>
Re: New immigration process.....
I have received retirement extensions four times (three in Nong Khai, once in Udon Thani). I have never been asked to provide proof where I live. I have brought my yellow book with me each time in case the issue is ever raised, but have never needed to show it.
Re: New immigration process.....
You only need to bring pictures of your home and a map of where you live if the extension is based on MARRIAGE !
For an extension based on Retirement neither are required at either Udon or Nong Khai Immigration offices.

Re: New immigration process.....
In which case you need a copy of the owners house blue book and in some cases the owner themselves may need to be present with the original document.Kevro wrote:Hi Guys,

The yellow book is handy, but not required.

I heard somewhere that if one opts for retire visa.....from a previous Marriage visa, have to have a signature from the wife (mine will probably not assist without a hand out !)..... Not together
No one seems to know for sure.
