AVG (free)
AVG (free)
I got a message yesterday telling me that my current version of AVG (the free one) will be discontinued soon and I need to upgrade to the new version - which is V7.5
Ok no problem I thought so I downlaoded the new version.
Everything seemed ok until I ran the scan and I now find that a full scan is taking on average 50 minutes to complete as compared to the old version which took around 20 or 25 minutes.
I dont have that many programmes on my laptop and am wondering why the new version takes so long to scan - any thoughts anyone ???
Or is it time to find a new anti-virus programme ??

Could just be the fact that it's scanning for a lot more bits than before..dont quote me on it though, but it does seem a little more comprehensive than the earlier versions..
New in AVG 7.5
* Improved virus detection based on better heuristics and NTFS data streams scanning
* Smaller installation and update files
* Improved user interface
* and more

Just downloaded the new version of AVG and the time for a scan has goine from about 30 mins to 47 mins.I have used it for years and initially the scans took 15 mins.Over time the database is going to get bigger and bigger as i guess viruses will never be removed in case they are re-released.total: 46:51.5 Min
AVG is an anti virus programme and AVG Lite is the free version. Acclaimed to be one of the leading anti virus programmes and best of all its free. Downlaod from www.grisoft.com
Updates itself automatically and haven't heard anything bad said about it yet.

AVG is a good anti virus program not the best but by no means not the worst
the free version is perfrectly capable for most people and this update is just a new core version I think they are getting their products updated in software terms for VIsta etc .
I have run both AVG PRO (ฃ 15 for 2 years) and the free AVG on machines for over 3 years and I never have problems with virus infection
updates nearly daily so no big updates except when new core comes out or you have forgot to update for weeks
AVG lite - better than nothing !

Despite what they say, you can continue to enjoy the upgraded AVG by clicking on http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-vi ... /us/tpl/v5
When you install just open the exe, don't worry about switching AVG off. Just select 'repair' when you are prompted and it will overwrite your existing installation. It worked for me so I hope you you will also enjoy the upgrade free.
