Wireless Router
Previously I posted a new thread on an upgrade package being promoted by TOT http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/t ... 12862.html
As part of the deal, they gave me a free (non-wireless) router, which I have not used because I already have my own (6yo Billion) wireless router. After experiencing problems for a few days with the internet connection disconnecting, I tested the connection with the TOT freebie, and loh! and behold, the problem disappeared.
Needless to say, I am now looking at a new wireless router. I rang TOT, and asked what it would cost to exchange the free router for a wireless model.
They quoted me TBH2700 for a Solomon Speedtouch TG585v7, which appears to be the stock item they supply. I have read some less than flattering reports on the Solomon/Thomson routers.
Does anyone have any experience with this wireless router, and any difficulties?
I have researched the Hardware House website, and their shop in the Complex is advertising a TP LInk model W8910G wireless for TBH2350, which would appear to be a better modem, and cheaper.
I would also welcome any comments from users of TP Link.
Thanks
jack

Re: Wireless Router
I have a TP link, wireless, but often use directly connected to my pc.
It performs well most of the time. Every now & again it will just fail to connect (often half way through a session, but also at start up). I have found that disconnecting the unit from the power & re-connecting usually sorts it out. I regularly now just disconnect it at night when I have finished with the net.....

Re: Wireless Router
I was using a TP-Link wireless adapter (PCMCIA) for about a year. It performed admirably and often it was running 24/7 downloading movies and TV series. I only stopped using it when I bought a new notebook so it became redundant but I never had a single problem with it.

Re: Wireless Router
I have a Linksys wireless router. Works excellently both upstairs and downstairs.
Re: Wireless Router
I always use Netgear by choice (although Linksys and D-Link are also good).
If you don't mind paying the extra I tink it's worth it.

Re: Wireless Router
I have used Linksys for about 3 years now and found it to be very good. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Wireless Router
I would recommend the Linksys routers also. Several are modifiable with firmware updates that allow you to increase signal strength, improve security, etc.

Re: Wireless Router
I ended up buying the TP Link I mentioned in the OP. However, I bought it online from the IT Variety Shop in Bangkok for considerably cheaper than advertised by Hardware House (TBH1580 v TBH2350)
Very happy thus far![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Wireless Router
ok, so what's the URL for IT Variety shop, sounds good option if not needing to shop, and just buy what you know ?
thanks in advance.![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

itvarietyshop(at)hotmail.com
I initially sent an email, rather than use the order form found in the website.
Guys name is Dang - very easy to deal with. I paid up front (via ATM transfer to his bank) with some initial reservation, but he sent me an EMS tracking number within a few hours.
I then had to return the unit (sent the wrong model), so he had to trust me to return, and me trust him to send the replacement. All done quickly, and without any fuss.
If you are price shopping, also suggest you just google the brand and model number of what you are looking for, plus add Thailand to the search parameters. You will be amazed at how many hits come up.
