Alternative/s to AMD Catalyst Control Center?

Post by fredwilliams » May 6, 2017, 4:16 am

Despite the fact that the official AMD site has specific drivers for Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit mobility radeon hd 5000 series, they kill my machine, with or without the GE (gaming extension, which I don't need).

It takes me 20+ mins and numerous restarts and HP Scans to get my machine up and running.

I'm using an HP Notebook 4525s.

Can anyone recommend an alternative to AMD, please?

HP equipment is notoriously finicky at the best of times.
The only place that you will get the correct drivers is their site..

This year I did a lot of research and work to get AMD CCC to work on my system (win 7 x64). It turns out that Windows is a robust system and continues to run even with errors and warnings happening frequently. I had to clean my system up very well for CCC to work. The AMD community forum was very helpful.

Thanks Bob & Geoffrey.

After much faffing around it turns out it's my graphics card that approaches but never reaches max temp.

An HP vs Windows thingy objects to it and gives me a blue screen of death BEFORE any real hardware damage can happen.

My fan is doing sweet FA now that I've noticed it. Any ideas on remedies for that please?

If the CPU cooling fan isn't spinning it will need replacing. I work on a lot of HP/Compaq machines and I will say that the cooling fans fitted are barely adequate, especially in countries where ambient temps are high.
By Default, the cooling fan should spin up to max speed when you boot the machine, then it will slow down and speed up as required (software controlled).
If you can't hear the fan spin up when booting, it's most likely f*cked!
