New Dell laptops for sale in Udon anyplace?

Post by Ricohoc » May 27, 2008, 2:38 pm

If Dell is not available anywhere, I'd be interested to know what new laptops forum members have purchased for good prices and have had good success ... Also, has the vendor provided good, fair-priced service?

Any info appreciated, my friends. 8)

I haven't seen Dell over here Ricohoc - maybe you could buy on line in the States & bring out here with you???
I bought (about 2 years ago) an Acer Travelmate 2420 from Robinsons electrical centre. It has been OK although it will on occasions freeze until I remove from mains & take out the batteries. From memory it was about 26,000 baht, but I have seen cheaper (Acer) around now in Big C for example I would say that this has far too little memory & I would not buy this (or their equivalent) again.....As far as service is concerned ummmm the copy of XP they gave me was a clone not an original :( & when I wanted to go GPRS they were as much use as a chocolate tea pot - I was lucky that Solomon were actually doing a promotion on the ground floor that day & they fixed me up in about 15 minutes...
In the complex there is a Toshiba shop that does VIOS (spelling???) and a Apple shop that does all things Mac. Greatly more expensive than the ACER though!!! But I guess you are buying from the 'source' there & would have maybe some chance of appealing to an authority outside Thailand if it went seriously wrong...

you all should know by now, i'm an HP fan, 3rd one. they get mixed reviews from critics, but i like them. plus the service center here, for hp/compaq seem to know there stuff, and isn't too bad, tho if out of warranty, i would do myself, as they prefer to sell hp parts, which are not inexpensive. tho the one service guy way back when, did install new gpu i think it's called, much cheaper then what hp wanted. just a tad slower, nothing noticealble.

mark, need to do your shopping there fast, one more bag, when comes to elec. and especially computers, the best deals are definitely in states.

Mark go with what LA says, of course I prefer Dell over HP. There is a dealer for Dell in Bkk, and that is the only place I know Dell is, right now, for service. Do your shopping in USA and bring with you. HP and Dell laptops are both set for 100 or 240 and can be used world wide. It's your choice of what you prefer.

There is a place selling DELL notebooks on the 2nd floor of the Charoensri complex. It is relatively new and is next door to the Udon notebook centre. If you are not in the vicinity I can get the specs and prices for you on Wednesday.

FYI, Dell has recently changed its business model from only selling online, to now setting up shops, and selling through other retail outlets.

I reckon if I was coming from the US I would buy there, and also purchase an extended international warranty if available.

That is what I did before I left Oz, and got a 3 year warranty for my Asus. Fortunately it has not missed a beat, so I am not getting much value from the warranty - but I guess that is the nature of insurance :D

You guys have been extremely helpful. :D

I've had Gateway and Dell and never had any problems. Currently have a Dell Inspiron (3 years old), but was looking to purchase one and leave it in the LOS to keep from hauling one with me every time I travel.

My only reason for asking about localized dealers for any laptops was only for the convenience of buying it there and leaving it there. If the best option is to buy in the US, I'll do that.

I'll check out all the options you've provided. Thanks! :D

Rico it has been my experience living here in LOS that all they offer you is pirate O/S unless you want to spend extra 4 to 6k for a legitimate copy a friend of mine bought a desk top in Tesco Lotus a big major store they gave him a pirate copy of XP so if you want you can buy a legitimate copy in the usa and install here in LOS which could be way to go also if you get vista make sure the notebook you buy is vista ready because it will not work in many computers you will be buying both sound & graphic cards (video)

Thanks for that advice, Ron.

I was aware of the fact that the computer had to be "Vista ready", but was not aware of all of the pirated copies of O/S.

Thanks! :D
