Minimum Daily Wage, by Location Salary in THB
Bangkok 170
Phuket 168
Phang Nga 145
Ranong 143
people upcountry, both north and northeast, wished they earned these salaries. udon used to be 129, just got couple baht raise. most work for less, or by the time the boss is done adding hours per day and days per week and since most fail at math, they haven't got a clue how much they are making or what their real salary is, but usually minimum or less. this from 1st hand, watching ex brother in laws being screwed at every job they had, and at some respected places/hotels in udon.

This is average across the country, can expect more in BKK & less in the North East...
Interesting.
It's always amazed me when I listen to guys tell me, "well she made 20-30k working in a bar or go-go, so I guess I'll have to match it".
I want to shake them and yell at them: "sure she had to fu*ck a couple of guys every night to make that, God only know what kind of danger she put her life in. Your offering her a chance at a decent life."
And then the guy tells me the girl says "well, if you can't give me more, I have to go back working".
I say "bye-bye".

"...grandma had given her and her brother a block of land each, and we could build a house on it. That convesation was obviously forgotton, as 2 weeks ago, I was informed that grandma wanted to sell some land, Gfs father wanted to buy it, but I could have first choice and buy it for GF for 100,000 baht, obviously in GFs name. It really appears to me as a whole family scheme, ..."

TALK ABOUT JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS (OR WHAT?): Are you sure that the land her grandmother wants to sell has anything to do with the block of land that she offered to let you build a house on?

I would bet a dollar to a donut hole that it is the same land. :D

But, then again, I am a cynical old bas*ard.

Must admit I did initially jump to conclusion, but I think the land is the same, ( over the road from Grandma) is all I have to go on. I can see I am still on a long learning curve, I will try to set a budget, that provides for family, baby, and GF. I pay for our house and expenses, and once the rains start and the rice planting begins, the baby will probably move in with us, to free Mama up, to help her husband. I can see a great difference in attitudes and opinions, but I guess that depends a lot on each individuals financial position, and the families.

Very right on Stan. One of these days our western culture will understand face vs embarassment or just plain deceit.

Sometimes it is hard but you just have to say "hit the road". Now see who saves face.

Rikus,
Get rid of her. Your GF and her family is scamming you!

My wifes father lives with his new wife and two kids up in Mukdahan province, they do a little bit of farming and whatever jobs they can find to get a better income.
I know my wife sends 2000 B a month, so far they never asked for any extras. They want to get by one their own and I can imagine that they struggle from time to time, but the refuse to receive more then they need to get by.

Right on Seaserpent. Most folks don't want charity. Most will scam you but charity is not honorable. As stated willing to help someone who will help themselves, the ones that scam, I will help them out the door, with a size 14 shoved where the sun don't shine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rikus you say the family are very poor even by Thai standards which confuses me because every poor village family I know would never even consider building a brick wall around their house, there would be a million other things to do with the money first.
Also if they have a wall around the house how will the neighbours chickens mysteriously end up their pot!
Could be a reason to ask for more cash, "Now we have wall we have buy chicken"
