How we met!

Post by kevinbrown » December 20, 2005, 1:58 am

I found Businessman's posting interesting about BG wives and how guys have met their wives.
It's always interested me about all those guys who "met through a friend" So here's a poll to see how most couples met, this is a chance for us all to see the truth.
I say this because most people I've asked always seem to have a similar answer, "we were introduced by friends"

In another way not listed; apparently the most common in, at least, the "western world"; however that is defined.

Through working at the same place.

Hmm, John it seems that we have more in common than I 1st thought, I was also working with my wife before we were married, and she even ended up becoming my lodger for a while, then the relationship flourished ;)

A few school friends and I (Lao/Aussies) crashed our motor bikes in front my LW's stall (sober I think). Anyway one thing lead to another and here we are.

Thats the problem with polls; does not include " I was bloody and she showed concern and mopped me up, Eye contact and we were made for each other"

Back in 1971 my friend Al ask me to come over as his wifes friend was coming over and had just broke up with her boyfriend. As a stupid jerk (by not oberving integrity) I ask had she worked in a bar. Wrong question, wrong time. Guess I could have pushed the subject.

Did not. I won!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a one year correspondence on the net, having initially met her through a matchmaking site. Then I met her and had a further 18 months courtship, when I observed her daily work routine and met her friends. So when I eventually married her, there wasn't much I didn't know about her.If this seems overly cautious, remember I had two previous Thai wives and I wanted this one to last.

Internet for us.
Had tried the introductions from friends but the girls looks and my associated desire were always getting in the way of sensible decision making.
Came back out of Thailand and met lady(s) on internet where sensible disscussion took place first. When photo came ... WOW

I think thats something thats apparent reading the various forum postings, no one seems to have a good old fashioned courtship before marrying. Being honest my two previous attempts were rushed in comparison, both less than 6 months. As my old mother used to say, "Marry in haste, repent, at leisure."

In England, especially at this time of year. We have advertising campaigns to make people think before buying a dog. The slogan is
"A dog is forever" I suggest we should change that to "A Wife is forever"

I should have wrote "Who gives a tinkers damn" on this question. What would your answer be if your wife or girlfriend ask you these questions. You know if you get a burr under your saddle it will irritate and you will be thrown. Then all is lost.

Gosh, let the past alone unless you are a saint. And if you were a saint you most likely would not be reading this. :D :D

I meet my TW in a bar where I worked as a bouncer here in the states. My job was to make sure there was no problems on the dance floor and night after night watching people that cant dance. I noticed A coming in the front door right away and after a few minutes there she began to dance and first though was "wow she knows how to dance!" After the band finished there second set I made my move and got her phone number and a year and a half I'm still wearing the ring she gave me

I think some lucky forum members can vouch for A's dancing ability. My wife persuaded? her to go to a club with a few girl friends where us guys eventually caught up with them. My comment at the time, "That girl was born to dance!" Miss you both, hurry back.

It's common knowledge and I'm not ashamed to admit I met TW in a BKK Bar.
My 1st trip to Thailand, work related, and just passing through BKK on my way to an offshore oil facility. I had a few hours to kill, walked into my 1st Thai bar, the 1st woman I saw emitted those immortal words "Hello hansom man!" --- We just celebrated the 5th anniversary of that night.
Without question, the best 5 years of my life.

I met my first lady in a bar, would have kept her in a minute, but Moma stepped in with the money games. Something I could control her but not the last 18 months while I was working in the states, So ther went my first Thai love.

Came to Udon alone and played her tried to stay away from the bar girls, so I wouldn't have a repeat performance. But what found out was these Udon girls were jut to smart for em. I waslooking for a lady I could build a life with not a buy me telephone, buy me motorcycle type of girl. Which was all that I was meeting. More then likely because I couldn't spek Thai and was taking the path of least resitance. Got the nick name of three day Ray. QWell life i short I had a very good idea of waht I wa tryng to find. If they were not what I wa trying to find NEXT

I finally talked to a friend who was a American citizen but originally Lao, told him what I was looking for number three that he introduced me to was it. She didn't speak a word of english and myself no Thia. But we got through it somehow. She didn't and has never drove me crazy about money. But she has the cell phone, the motorcycle and a new Chevy pickup and we move into her first home tomorrow.

I just needed someone that we could be on the same page and then the chemistry took care of the rest of it.

Would I marry a bar girl you betcha billy bob, if things hadn't went the way they did with my little Pattaya sweety I would be married to her right now. Just wasn't meant to be. 8)

Would I marry a BG. not yes but hell yes. Sometimes when in Thailand go out to the bars for a beer. Being as how I am not looking, just socializing, I have met some real fine ladies. Been told a couple of times it is good to just sit and talk. On the other side I told them I was married to a Thai the first question was "lookin for mia noi"? When I told them no I would get a funny look and then they were gone. Seperated the wheat from the chafe.

Were all the women that talked to me the marrying type? Sure. Were all the ones that moved on the marrying type? Sure.

Sooner or later these girls do move on and usually get married to someone. I guess I could ask you ever seen an old BG but would have to answer yes. The only thing is you see 1000/1 young to old ratio. Don't think they go to Mars when they move on.

Sure some of the seasoned ladies that went down the path of drugs and booze become wards of the state. Do not doubt this profession has a larger number than most professions but the majority move on, have kids and family and the first thing they say is no bar for my kids.

Cannot say how it is in Europe but we have the same type of thing going on here in the states(most folks won't admit it) in Mens or Gentlemans clubs. Every once in a while one of the tv channels does a why are you working here. Most are single(if not all), have kids, little education and trying to move on. Is prostitution going on, use your own imagination. Do they finally quit, most do as again, you will see the ocassional old working woman, but the ratio I bet is 1000/1.

I do not know how to prove the above ratios, nor care to try. Just open ones eyes and you will see.

There are 275 mens or gentlemans clubs in the Houston area. Taht was from a tv news report. Bet if you add up the clubs in BKK, patpong, nana, soi cowboy, etc you will get close to that number. Sometimes I wonder how BKK gets the name sin city.

To go back to the original question, would you marry a BG, a lot of folks the world over do and just don't know it. Again look at the total package and forget the past. If it bothers you to know the past, then keep your own past free of transgressions. If you do that then your chances increase I guess. "What you don't know can't hurt you!!"

But you are never sure are you so who cares. :D :D Also as stated "who gives a tinkers damn". Don't know of any sure fire method unless you hire a detective, or find a family to lord over your wife from birth. :fryingpan:

Then the number one question you should ask, and this is of ones self. Did I go to bars and pick up girls either in your country of orgin or in Thailand. If the answer is YES then "this is the pot calling the kettle black." "Also it take two to tango"!!!! :D

OK, but asking as a "newbie" in this area (I married a girl I happened to meet in Thailand, could have been anywhere really), is that good advice for somebody who is not aware of the realities.

There are so many farang who get stung badly (an example was recently here  ) that it does not seem to be a good idea to make that your first choice for meeting a woman, especially if you are the "2 weeks in Thailand on a lads trip" type.

I have a neice who works in a bar, serving beer...ONLY. I dunno, maybe thats the problem. BG is synonymous with "dirty money grabbing *****", excuse my French; perhaps RW (Rent Wife, the thai name) would help to make the distinction.

In fact, to try to illuminate the other side of this, I will start another thread

John
