I have a further proposition.

Perhaps new members should have to pass an English comprehension test before they are allowed to post.

After all, bunter's post reads:
as I, and most of the people I know in Udon.......
This is a statement of fact.

He doesn't say "most of the people in Udon", which would be an opinion - because he doesn't know. But in any case, he is entitled to his opinion, without threats in retaliation.

I detect an air of preciousness whenever someone brings up the subject of the background's of Thai wives.

If she wasn't a hooker, you know that - why do you worry?

If she was a hooker, you should know that too, and make your own decisions accordingly.

In my opinion, saints response is a long way from appropriate.

Butter said nothing about saint's wife (or any of our wives for that matter). But he then proceeds to set up a hypothetical situation (a straw man), to which he then threatens violence.

Quite unnecessary, and inflammatory.

So logically Stan, if you have never met him, you don't fall into the category of "people he knows" in Udon. Therefore, he cannot be talking about your wife.

Why do you choose to be offended?

Why are people upset by this statement? He simply states that most of the people he knows in Thailand are married to BG. He did not say it in an insulting manner; just a statement of fact from his perspective.

I'd have to say that roughly half of the people I know in Udon are married to former BG. This is just a fact. Okay, I guess it's time for my face to be ripped off.

It's also a farang myth that no sinsod is ever paid for a non-virgin. I have attended a Thai + Thai wedding where the man was divorced with 3 kids and the woman was also divorced. He paid sinsod of 60K baht. Both were in their late 20's.

getting back on the topic of paying sin sod I think eddies answer was best if you promise to pay then pay it and quit bitching speaking for my self if I make a commitment or a promise I live by it
no excuses to weasel out later on now I did not pay sin sod my wife parents were deceased when I met her so no sin sod was in order now the question is would have I paid i think so if the amount was reasonably by my standards and I also think I would have set the amount I was willing to pay

I agree with butternut, 1 He states he has married BG pro, and 2 MOST of the people HE KNOWS have done the same, maybe he knows 5 or maybe he knows 50 people
If he said ALL the people HE KNOWS married BG and were Pros that could be very well true, Unless of course you know him and your wife was not a BG/Pro then you could say Butternut thats not true I know you and my wife is not a BG Pro, Iam sure Butternut would apologise

Never did he say all Udon farang wifes are ex BG or Pros.

Good post aznyron, I agree completely with "i think so if the amount was reasonably by my standards and I also think I would have set the amount I was willing to pay". I paid but of course I was told that the amount was up to me. So I made it simple... put a US$100 note in an envelope and gave it to mom. No hassle and no questions. I can honestly say, I've been 'repaid' several times over. :D

Well I resurrected this topic from over 2 years ago, really just because I thought the report about Tata Young might be of mild interest to some.
I can't help comparing however the response from current members to that of the replies of members of 2006, far more aggressive and in my mind, definitely not so friendly.Whatever has happened to us?

Trubrit I agree... :(
Can only hope that it is the wet spell that we are going through that is damping spirits & the forum will return to people at least respecting the opinion of others - even if they are diametrically opposed to their own - as it improves...
