Aribaba - Indian, Mexican, American and Thai cuisine
I would like to welcome Aribaba restaurant and coffee shop to UdonMap.
Aribaba offers excellent Indian, Mexican, American and Thai cuisine. As you can see in the photos below the place is decorated in middle eastern style which is unique to Udon.
I had one of their Indian curries and nan bread a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed.

Lee thanks for the thumbs up on the Aribaba restaurant. The photos give it an impressive look and I hope the food matches them. I'll be in Udon next week and will check the place out.
Aribaba is an interesting name because Thais have difficulty pronouncing the letter 'r' and I can only assume they call the restaurant Alibaba. That's one clever name.

I forgot to add...the video on the Aribaba Facebook page of the three cute dancers, what the hell is that all about. Can anyone throw any light on it?

Bertie - You are 100% right. I checked it out and the video was posted on February 3rd last year which happened to be Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit.
You wouldn't want to have myxomatosis with those three cute bunnies hanging around.
Cheers.

Great Tacos there went back 3 nights in a row, perfect texture and a virbrant flavour spicy , almost addictive, they have a couple of cans of coke from the 2000 Olympics on display, will make this my second home for food, 2 pax B500 with drinks , if you big fat and ugly, there are 3 normal size height tables to sit at, the rest are low, just enough to get your legs under, different sitting on the floor to eat but ok for me

Went in to try it out, at long last, & was very impressed..
Completely different menu, both in design & content, from anywhere else in Udon.
Lee, you need to somehow (via pictures I guess) load their menu up on here so that people can see it, I am sure that they will then want to try.
A great deal of care has obviously been taken with the entire project & it all works well.
The building design, the seating & soft furnishings, the ambiance, the menu & the food have all been well thought out & work extremely well together.
The food is not the cheapest in town, but it isn't the most expensive either & manages to represent good value for money because it does taste good.
My only slight complaint is that the price of alcohol in there is on the high side. I can understand that they have no desire to turn it into a drinking den but I was grateful that I am not drinking at the moment because that would have pushed up the cost of the bill considerably...
All in all a great experience & I will certainly return to try other items from the menu another day...

I called into Aribaba yesterday to try out the food.....
As well as the Indian,Mexican,American and Thai cuisine mentioned in the topic title they also do English breakfasts,European and Moroccan food.
Authentic Indian curries seem to be their speciality.I had an excellent chicken "Butter Curry" along with Naan bread and rice.
The restaurant is located on Adunyadet Road, almost opposite Udon Bread (Dieters). The interior is very nice, possibly more Middle East than Indian I thought but quite unique to Udon.
Its an upmarket restaurant, similar to Good Everything and Green Leaf (that was). Therefore the food is a little bit pricey ( eg.Naan bread 39 baht, chicken curry 229 baht, rice 99 baht) but what I ate was delicious. The beer, too,is a little expensive (large Singha 130 baht) but understandable as its an upmarket restaurant not a drinking den !
Thai food is cheaper and courses were from 89 baht (I think) and you can get a cappucino for 55 baht which is quite reasonable.
They have a huge food and drinks menu.Personally I thought it was too large and I think they should initially concentrate on the Indian curries,Mexican food,English breakfasts and a reduced Thai menu to build up a customer base.I dont think that there is much call for Moroccan food or the expensive Salmon and Lamb European dishes.
But well worth the Lads and Dads of Udon taking your wife or sweetheart for a nice night out......not together,of course !

Visited the restaurant yesterday with my wife. The decour is as picured and most pleasant as were the 2 ladies. I had the tacos, my opinion nothing special at all, could have come from the taco shell kit at Tops that my wife buys and puts a better and more plentiful filling in. My wife had a rice dish, again okay but frankly the prices, including many of the menu items are way over priced. The rice dish my wife commented was normally a 60-70 TB items, not 179. The 2 tacos, 259 TB, again way over priced for the quantity and quality. The other foods I haven't tried so can not comment but if you really want Mexican food, take a holiday and visit Miguel's in Chiang Mai or visit their website for an idea of fair prices. What broke it for me was receiving the bill and noting 15 TB for the ice in addition to the bottle of water. I guess I have spent too much time in the US SW where Mexican is, to some degree, native and not from the page book of a European chef or other. I don't mind paying for overall value and even the setting but this place doesn't qualify for me.

I have visited the retaurant several times, and I must say, what the owner realised here, is very impressionating.
Even there are several pictures in this thread I like to show the pics that my camera took.
Mostly I sat outside, this is my breakfast.

Inside it looks like a fairytale of 1001.

The owner is very creativ, she travelled around and had the ideas for this restaurant abroad.
And the waitress is so sweet, but a little shy.
To find the way to the toilets is an oriental trip on it's own.
Every detail has been planned with love.
In the toilet I happened to forget what I am there for just looking around.
All in all I recommand this restaurant.
It's international cuisine is worth their prices.

In my previous post I mentioned their dish-presentation.
Small detail: nearly each dish they serve you get extra spoon, fork
and/or knive; this you hardly see in other thai-owned restaurants in Udon.

We were there with 8 people a two months ago, yust after starting the business . I had Pizza expensive, came in my opinion from big C freezer, and the others some meet did not eat everything. Place is nice decorated, but in the first place you come to eat and they gave us no price value for food.
That is my thought about it, so never again. bye bye

Ate there tonight. My friend and I were the only customers. (Udon seems a bit sleepy on Songkran-eve)
We ordered their classic spaghetti, deep fried shrimp spring rolls, two blueberry smoothies, garlic nan bread, and pepperoni pizza. The food was good in my opinion. My Thai friend thought it was ordinary. Final bill was 1064 baht.
The pizza was surprisingly expensive, especially considering how small it was. But it was pepperoni, so I had to try it. I would not order it again.
Aribaba has a sign out front that says in Thai, "It's not as expensive as you think". That's true. In fact, it's more expensive than you think;-)
I hope Aribaba finds a way to lower their prices. That would motivate me to visit again, to try more dishes on their huge menu.

yeah I'd have to say this was a great place, -if this is the direction Udon can go as ASEAN FTA takes effect, it would be a welcome future for the town. this is some place that you'd find more in BKK, Chiang Mai, or near a high-so hotel in Phuket.
it's rare to find a place with actual style. the food was pretty good, and a really diverse clientele. -if this place was inside of Central, they'd be quite wealthy by now. this place deserves as much PR as possible, -there just are not very many mid-range/high end husband/wife type spots around that you could say have a touch of a romantic feel.
they should send their menus to all of the housing villages like Gomen City, San Saran, -the foreigners who don't frequent bars would then know about the place.
