Had this brew recommended to me by a Flemish mate when I told him that I was going for a Sunday Sip at the Belgian Beer Cafe in Melbourne's Southbank district a few months ago. A lovely beer that more than lives up to its name although the delirium kicked in early when the first shout of 4, 330ml bottles cost me $52 Ozzie Dollars (bit over 1500B or 375B a stubby). Spent the afternoon sampling many fine Belgian beers, getting smashed and contemplating how much further my dollars would go if I was drinking in the fine city of Udon.
Just out of interest Bubba what do you charge for a small Delirium Tremens?
This was posted on another thread, but since it was specifically directed to me, and NOT wanting to be accused of trying to highjack someone else's thread, I'll answer here.

We've been selling 7 - 10 different Belgian Biers for over a year now. It's not a huge part of our business, but it has been greatly appreciated by a few discerning, and not so cost conscious beverage drinkers. The Delirium Tremens has been priced at 195b per 330ml bottle. At 11% alcohol content it's almost like a "2fer", but it's the taste, not the high percentage that hooks most drinkers.

Regarding pricing, we have not reordered since the most recent tax hike, so this MAY change in the future, but certainly nowhere near 375b per bottle!!! We'll continue to stock these, and maybe a few new additions, as long as there is a demand.

Our other Belgian products are priced 110b - 210b each. And you can try them NOW! Our most popular, by far, has been Duvel. A lovely full bodied Golden Ale with 8.5% ABV. Side note, "Duvel" in Flemmish means Devil!

Come join us!

Thanks for the answer Bubba.
When in Udon or when at home I try to limit my boozing to once or twice a week these days. The older I get the more I prefer quality as opposed to quantity and therefore enjoy the Belgian beers.
An afternoon out in Melbourne can't be compared to a session in Udon price wise as the dozen or so staff at the Belgian Beer Cafe would be getting about $35 an hour with Sunday penalty rates and I'm pretty sure when other costs and rent are figured into the pricing the difference 195B - 375B is somewhat justifiable.
But it doesn't really matter as it's a choice about how and where and on what I choose to spend my dosh. And if I don't like the prices I can always stay home and drink Leo from Aldi (like today :D ).
I will definitely be in to sample some of Jun and your fine food and of course have a few Belgian beers when next in town.
Cheers
Lew

Thanks Lew, look forward to meeting you.

Enjoyed watching the Motosport GT race from Philip Island today at the request of a customer. Too bad the points leader got black flagged for missing his mandatory pit stop, but looks like that levels the playing field for the rest of the season for some other contenders.

It's been a nice week, even with being closed on Saturday. Several new faces, some on their way to Nong Khai for fireball watching. Plus a few returning regulars who "winter" in Udon.

Next week is LAST CALL for sausage gravy and biscuits, UNLESS we sell what we make up. Here's the deal. We make a batch on Wednesday morning from a half kilo of sausage, a half gallon of milk, and a stick of butter (plus a couple other items). That equates to about 7 or 8 servings. It will keep nicely for a few days, but that's it. I end up eating what's left over because I cannot bring myself to putting stuff that tasty in the bin. So if you guys wanna see it stay on the menu board... COME AND GET IT!

I really enjoyed watching the Moto GP race at Bubba's Now that Marques got black flagged, Lorenzo has a real chance for the 2013 championship. The last 2 races should be very exciting to watch.
Thanks again to Bubba and Jun for the friendly hospitality.

See you two next week

Hi Ding! You missed the Jambalaya by a week, but maybe we'll do it again before you leave. I'll think you'll be pleasantly surprised by our generous serving of fish and chips with our wildly popular home made tartar sauce!

Dang Joe, sorry we missed you and Aoy! Hope the house project is going smoothly for you, but TiT and I know things can be mighty frustrating. See you soon. Maybe time for taking the ladies out for another dinner in town?

It's cooling down now (Thank God!). We'll be setting up the awning over the sidewalk soon. Want to wait until storm season is finished for sure. Anyone that was here for the Loy Kathong storm fiasco last year will know why I want to wait!

Back in the days, not so many years ago, when there were far more samlor peddlers than expats in Udon, I traveled to Bangkok every other month or so......an expat in Udon then couldn't buy much more than gaiyang and sticky rice to eat. And when I'd travel to Bangkok, I always did two things: One, go to Pantip Plaza to buy computer accessories (remember, Udon was a sticky rice/gaiyang sort of town then). And two, since I was at Pantip, I'd always pitstop at A&W.....not for a burger, not for their fries....but for a root beer float. There were a few trips where I really didn't buy anything in Bangkok........but I always bought a float. Pretty expensive floats, if you count all the travel, taxis, heat stroke etc. Thank God for progress in Udon....we've now got the likes of Dennis and June to satisfy my longing for an occasional root beer float. Unlike the coffee vendor in Bangkok (Starbung) who's being sued by Starbucks, Dennis just advertises his floats as Root Beer Floats. He's smart enough to leave off the A&W......but taste wise, you'd not know the difference. Chilled mug and all!
My my, how Udon's changed over the years!

I would imagine that if he uses A&W he can call them A&W Root Beer Floats. For my money, there was never a root beer which could compare.

I like A&W, never arrived in the UK, like Elvis Presley. A&W never took off in Thailand. I wonder why?

A big Thank You to Greg and his Aussie mates who made our day yesterday. These young lads can eat! They do a decent job on the beverages also. ;) One friend ordered a burger with an EXTRA meat patty and no veggies, which brings it to nearly a ONE POUND burger. Another friend ordered a cheeseburger with TRIPLE bacon and fried egg (must have been over 5" tall!). Another ordered just Extra bacon. All washed down nicely with dark Beer Lao. Have fun in Phuket guys!

You see, you can "have it your way" at Bubba's... if you don't see it on the menu, just ask!

Hi Bubba, Would you like to watch Moto GP again on Sunday at your place? Not sure what time it's on. Could you find out and let us know? It's on Fox sports from what I can tell.
Thanks; JB

No problem JB. 1000 to 1400 this Sunday. Next to last race of the season I believe. Any others interested in watching are welcome to join!

Halloween at Bubba's. Bring your kids by to "trick or treat" next Thursday. We'll have a variety of candies for them. Costumes encouraged, in fact if you can talk your Thai wife into some "spooky" attire we'll buy her the drink of her choice.

Chang Draught and Chang Light, big bottle, now 60b, any time of day, while supplies last. We're discontinuing these 2 slow sellers to make room in the cooler for some new brews from a certain new beer distributor in Udon.

Reminder: Motorcycle racing tomorrow from 1000 - 1400. Watching guys approaching speeds of 300kph on 2 wheels, sometimes leaning at angles that seem to defy the laws of physics, is exciting to say the least. Qualifying on right now, on a wet track, but tomorrow's forcast is for sunshine.

I'll be up at 0700 watching the World Series if anyone wants to join me. Only coffee and tea available, and maybe a few pastries from Beyond Cafe that I'll sell for the same as I paid. Getting Jun in gear before 9AM is next to impossible.

You can bring the kids by anytime Thursday for a treat. And again, free drink for T/W in costume. They drill their customs into us, we might as well share ours with them!

I would try Tesco, or my wife thinks Central Plaza might be better, and more choices.

Your quite welcome Ding. Exciting game despite the controversial last play. Series now 2 - 1 Cardinals.

Belgian Kasteel Donker now BACK IN STOCK! Just sampled a new brew for us, De Graal Gember. A slight ginger flavor and 8% ABV. Currently offered at an introductory price of 150b for 330ml.

Good news on the sausage gravy front. We sold our last serving this morning. So a fresh batch coming Wednesday. Good work guys!
