Looking for Quality

Post by parrot » May 27, 2017, 3:21 pm

There's no shortage of restaurants in Udon these days, but my wife and I are a bit bummed on trying some and walking away disappointed. We're not opposed to paying higher prices, but would like to get good service and quality food in exchange. Just interested in Chinese/Thai/Isaan sorts of dishes. Music not necessary.
Any recent recommendations?

We recently went to Tha Naam, we had a great meal, service was good and it wasn't overly expensive, we did a review on the private members only bit too.

The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

We had dinner this past week at Laem Charoen seafood restaurant in Central Plaza. The food and service were great. A lot of choices and decent portion size. Some may consider it to be a bit pricy but were satisfied with the value. I wouldn't recommend going on a weekend as they seem to be very busy but any weekday afternoon or evening would be fine.

The Solao Restaurant that Wazza noted on the other thread looks quite nice as well.

The Laem Chaeron promotion deals, 888 Baht for 4 set, including the Pla Kapong is ok, UNTIL they add the ++, 10% service charge and 7 % VAT

20 baht for a cool refresher towel , ++ OTT.

Poo Dum there is nice also

My two favorite restaurants -- both family and couple friendly -- are directly across the Ring Road from each other.

Bueng Mai Hom is on the northbound side between Hwy 22 and Home Pro.

Mai Gau Lau Mai is directly across the street on the southbound side.

Service and food is excellent in both places. Both have live music that is at a volume where you can still have easy conversation.

I failed to mention that we frequent them at night for dinner. I never remember seeing any activity at lunch time. I went for lunch to Bueng Mai Hom with a group about 5 years ago. We were the only ones there.
