Wondering if any correlation or truth to this premise: the less that EC's / CC's spend on breakfast or eating out in general (and or accomodation, if considered on a monthly basis), the more they spend on beer and babes Or more simply, the ratio of spend - breakfast:beer?

A punter who won't spend more than 100 baht for breakfast but probably spends a few hundred baht on daily beer.

Put another way, us poor married guys in jail have little better to do with our dough than eat out, and eat well.
Well said :D

I'll stick with the Irish Clock... I don't care if it's 20 Baht more than other places. You get what you pay for & for me, the warm welcome, friendly service & quality of food (including home made bread/breakfast rolls) is well worth it. ;)

I may be going out on a limb here, but the breakfast foods I miss include:
Fried potatoes with onions
Grits
Sausage gravy
Buttermilk biscuits
Jowl bacon
Ham & red-eye gravy
Country pan sausage
These are real heath hazard, but so is everything worth having. :badteeth:

At one time I would have said the breakfast at the City Lodge was best in town, now I've got to agree with Stevo that the Clock's breakfast is best. As is all their food.

No wonder the US leads the world in obesity - albeit that others are rapidly, and unfortunately, catching up.

They are indeed breakfast foods. Of course they aren't all eaten at once for single breakfast, but a combination of a meat, starch and usually eggs are. As I said not necessarily healthy like the yogurt, fruit and coffee I have now, but they are fond memories. :badteeth:

Nah, we're only the 9th most obese country in the world. Besides that, onions (as in fried potatoes and onions) are not fattening, it just the potato and the fried part that you have to worry about.

There are currently 1.6 billion overweight adults in the world, according to the World Health Organization. That number is projected to grow by 40% over the next 10 years. The following list reflects the percentage of overweight adults aged 15 and over. These are individuals who have individual body mass indexes, which measures weight relative to height, greater than or equal to 25. Obese is defined as having a BMI greater than or equal to 30. Shado...Just another "fact" that jack twists to make the USA sound like the worst country in the world.

My favorite breakfast in Udon is across the street from Nong Prajak Lake. Outside seating great view. local Thai people. 2 Eggs with "stuff" on top, 2 peices of bread with "stuff" stuffed in it and a large iced coffee. All for 49 baht!! I would pay twice that for it! But do not tell them. :-$ The color is off a bit taken with a Cellphone camera.

Nong Prajak breakfast......
Yes, I go to that place at least once a week, used to go everyday when we lived in Soi Banchang.
The 'stuff' in the rolls is pork, and the panfried eggs comes with two kinds of sliced pork sausage.
I have the full works, orange juice, coffee and patango donuts with the breakfast.
Get there early, as the vendors are starting to pack up at 9am.
Take in the cool air before the sun has got his hat on. Watch the joggers go by and people picking up breakfast to go.

Where I live now, the 'Patango' man comes round our moobaan on a motorbike at 6.30am everyday.
10 baht and 20 baht, a bag.

"Udon Thani Eggs" as shown in Randerson's photo are sold in quite a few shops, including a famous / original one on Prajak Road midway beteen Tungsrimuang and the Udon Dutsadi circle, left side just before the stoplight when going toward the circle (next to the Skylab showroom and factory). They open at some crazy hour eg 2 a.m. or so (not sure exactly, I'm writing this at 4h14 and tempted to go! ) as they get the "after bars close" crowd, what looks like staff from bars in all their finery. They get van loads of Thais visiting from other provinces too.

At that nearby junction with a stoplight, ratehr than going to circle, take a right, and about 150 meters toward Phosri Road, is "clean Udon Thani Eggs" as my wife likes to refer to it, has more of a high so crowd so a bit cleaner in appearance. There are others too.

I prefer a Thai breakfast over a western and there are a number of venues around town that I visit. One favorite is individual (located on Sisata Road between Phosri and Prajak Roads, open 0400-10:00).

Home cooked breakfast:

2 lg #0 eggs.......... 4 baht
100 gr bacon ........ 19 baht
50 gr ham.......... 20 baht
home fries ........ 10 baht
ex lg boncafe coffee 10 baht
2 toast, butter, jam 5 baht

cooked to perfection, served hot, not burnt, in the comfort of your own home, less than 70 baht, a filling meal. better than any meal available anywhere served for 150 baht and up. no driving, no fuel spent, no parking hassle, no tip, no distraction, no smoke, no noise. Simply roll out of bed and prepare. So why pay for for someone to mess it up.

Three or four things you missed out:
baked beans / tinned tomatoes
sausages
and being bothered to cook & wash up following an early morning bit of romance with TW/ WFB.

You forgot these considerations:

No shopping to buy the ingredients
No queueing to pay for said ingredients
No fuel to drive to shop to buy ingredients
No gas/electric used for cooking
No effort required for preparing & cooking the meal
No washing up after the meal
No banter to engage in with other diners before/during or after the meal
No homemade bread or rolls with meal unless you make your own (more effort/expense)
No supporting your local businesses
I could add - No cute waitress to serve you, but then I have my own ;)
