First order of Pork Carnitas with Cilantro Tomatillo Sauce accompanied by a Caipirinha. Got 2 thumbs up. They are hot, spicy, and DELICIOUS. The TW will also like these.

Regarding the Caipirinhas.... CAUTION, if you plan to drink more than one, bring your designated driver with you. They are DEADLY!

It's been a hoot, but NO MORE CAIPIRINHAS are available! Sorry, we only had one bottle of cachaca and it's now finished. We still have some Pork Carnitas with Cilantro Tomatillo Sauce. It is DELICIOUS, AND your TW will like it also... GUARANTEED!

Got lots of free time to post on UM, I am, after all, retired.

So, our nice cool weather appears to be gone for this season. It was a nice run though, three full months of absolutely lovely weather. It's time to get the A/C's fully cleaned and serviced before the REAL heat wave hits next month. Always nice to have a cool place (no pun intended) to come sit and have a nice lunch and a beer, or two.

All the Brazilian specials are finished. Thanks to all who came. I think everyone was quite pleased. We've got another popular special coming up for next weekend. Stay tuned.

Come join us!

Bubba and Jun

P.S. REMINDER... Closed tomorrow and Tuesday.

Good Morning UDON THANI!

A nice couple days off. Went out to the Mango festival on Monday. Low and behold, while way out there in the sticks and sitting in the police department's noodle tent, we ran into a couple of familiar faces. Go figure. It IS a small world after all! Yesterday consumed with shopping and other errands. Today back to normal.

Special for ALL this week... BELGIAN BEERS DISCOUNTED 25%! Now through Sunday. No minimum purchase required. No take away, and for UM readers ONLY, so you have to mention you saw this post.

Weekend special TBA. Hint, you will like it. Stay tuned.

HURRICANE coming to Bubba's Bar & Grill (Sponsor)

Post by BigBubba » March 6, 2014, 1:14 pm

Fat Tuesday, two days ago, marked the end of Carnival in Brazil, and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. However, we had so much fun last weekend we're gonna carry it through this weekend, but with some American traditions instead of the Brazilian ones. Starting tomorrow afternoon we'll have our famous CAJUN JAMBALAYA. This is a very popular item for us and we always sell out what we make. You can call in to reserve an order if you like. Also, for the first time we will compliment this with some absolutely authentic N'awlins RED BEANS AND RICE. (sold separately)

But wait, we're not done just yet. Since the Caipirinhas we're such a big hit last week we need a drink synonomous with Mardi Gras, and non other fills this bill than a Pat O'Brien's style HURRICANE! I had my first one at age 18 (alas so many moons ago) because legal age in Louisana was 18 at the time, and 21 in my home state of Tennessee. What better incentive to drive 400 miles with a group of friends from high school? Here's a link to the infamous Hurricane and how it came about, interesting. http://www.patobriens.com/patobriens/ha ... ricane.asp

And, of course, you never consumed any alcohol before you reached the legal age, right?!!?!?!?!?!?

So you drove 400 miles to have a few drinks and then drove home? Well, back then they didn't take drunk driving nearly as seriously as they do now!!

I'm dying to know what's in the Hurricane "mix."

Ah, Louisiana, what a place back in the 60's. When I was 15 I had a charge account at 'ol man Navoie's place-Mr. to his face, the "Shady Rest Motel" bar and etc. Technically it was in Vinton LA. What we called "across the river" was rocking and rolling. Great bands, great dances, lots of fights and the bouncers would shoot you. Real pin ball machines that paid money and long neck beer was about 20 cents. Went to see Chubby Checker at the Big Oaks Club (the #1 place to go for hundreds of miles) across the highway. The age limit was 18 but in those days if you could reach the bar with your money you got served...lol. Gambling was everywhere, Bossier City was wide open and the Las Vegas of the south also had a pretty decent drag strip. Lake Charles was rocking also, Otis Redding used to play at one of the clubs, most of my friends got to know him and my wife and another blond lady met his flight at the airport in Houston. I imagine that got a few hard looks. I never had the pleasure as Uncle Sam's Misguided Children were keeping me busy.

Looking forward to stuffing myself tomorrow. If my feeble brain will function long enough I'll order some file' powder tonight. I've got a couple of "Swamp Pop" music CD's from back in those days if you want to borrow, carefully.

HURRICANE Hits Bubba's Bar & Grill (Sponsor)

It wasn't an F5, but was certainly more than F3, and close to F4! We served our first Pat O'Brien's style HURRICANES last night. One customer had 3, and I was "forced" to have one myself. With 2 and half shots of liquor, and only 150 baht, quite a deal. Guaranteed to be more potent than 150 baht worth of beer or cider no matter the strength or country of origin!

Thanks SGT for sharing that story. I read that little dissertation aloud to a few customers last night and we all had a good chuckle. Kind of tickles old memories in all of us.

CAJUN JAMBALAYA and N'awlins RED BEANS AND RICE are ready... COME AND GET IT!

SCROLL UP to get the link about the origin of the "Hurricane".

The jambalaya was great, thank you Jun. I just couldn't find enough room in the the stomach for the red beans and rice. I'll do better next time. Le bon ton rule'.

Took the words right out of my mouth, SGT... LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL, as the French influenced natives of southern Lousiana say. HURRICANES are a hit, and more than one patron has left "under assistance" from the TW or other friend. Scroll up the page for the link that tells the origin of this potent cocktail during WWII.

Still have CAJUN JAMBALAYA and N'awlins RED BEANS AND RICE available as we made extra large batches of both.

Sunday Morning special... Bubba's Hot and spicy Bloody Mary 50 baht... 9AM - NOON only.

Finally managed to get a photo of one of these potent cocktails. Today is the last day they'll be available. So, for anyone brave enough... TODAY ONLY, buy 2 and GET ONE FREE (while supplies last). Be sure to bring your designated driver! This special offer for UM readers ONLY and will NOT be posted in premises, so you must mention you saw this post.

It's not red because we don't have any grenadine.

Just a few orders of CAJUN JAMBALAYA and N'awlins RED BEANS AND RICE remain. Call in if you want us to reserve one.

Oops  Wrong photo! Actually what we will have all this week, in preparation for St Pattys Day, is REAL IRISH COFFEE. I never even thought about combining alcohol with my coffee until a visit to the famous Buena Vista Café in San Francisco so many years ago. The Buena Vista over looks the bay and is strategically located at one of the trolly turn around points. Instead of waiting for the trolly in an extremely long que, many people will pop into the Beuna Vista for lunch, or one of their signature Irish Coffees. Of course the que for the trolly is still there... but it's easier to bear the wait. ;) Here's a story on the Beuna Vista: http://www.thebuenavista.com/irishcoffee.html

I guess they enter the Guiness Book of Records in 2008 with the largest Irish Coffee ever made: http://www.thebuenavista.com/record.html

Our authentic Cajun food was a big hit last week as usual. It was our first attempt at making N'awlins RED BEANS AND RICE, and we had so many requests that we've decided to make another batch tonight. Charlie, this time we'll make it more "soupy". ;) It will be ready to serve tomorrow and available all week. If it continues to sell, we'll put it on the regular menu. It's not nearly as time consuming to make as the Jambalaya.

Will there be whipped cream for the Irish Coffee?
