I have just seen the sad news about Steve on a previous topic . I use to visit there and Mojo's next door and use to enjoy a chin wag with Steve very sad news I was shocked to say the least can someone shed some light if the bar is still open etc etc ,as I will be coming to live in Udon in the next few weeks
PS Also how far has the construction project progressed

Sad news indeed;
I can confirm the bar is still open and being run by his wife Moo who welcomes old and new customers.

tai was fun i wonder where she has gone
Re: steve's bar ???
I was put off by them allowing smoking in the bar/dining area. Isn't there a law now? I was going to mention it, but better I go somewhere else.... and not upset them.

MALC malc ooooh Malc smoking laws are in place to protect the public's health and the 'LAW' in Thailand is prohibited to smoke bars and resturants . So that makes me well within my rights to inform the nessasary authorities that a act of the Thai law has been breached.
I myself smoke and i would not do so in front of non smokers for reasons that are obvious maybe you would? Malc as in my short time in udon i have witnessed "some" low morals. So as for getting a so called life i suggest a look in the mirror is needed.
Re: steve's bar ???
In fact it is against the law to smoke in air-comditioned places, restaurant/shop/any public building, however I am sure Malc could deviate from the law if he so wishes, but can he afford the fines on a daily basis, or even possibly lose the licence to run a restaurant ( presuming the bar has one).
Tha laws were changed to protect the public, but then over the last few months the amount of customers in Steve's bar have been scarce , every time I pass I am amazed it is still open to be truthful.

All valid points I'm sure, however.
Your patronage might well be most welcome.Tafia wrote: I can confirm the bar is still open and being run by his wife Moo who welcomes old and new customers.

Re: steve's bar ???
How many Laws in Thailand can you name that are not broken by both farangs and Thais alike on a daily basis, i dont think you need 2 hands to tally up the unbroken ones. Also i dont think the B in B need informants especially Farang ones to notify them when laws are being broken,if they feel it necessary and need some funds they will carry out their own purge without assistance from would be do gooders such as yourself.
Re: steve's bar ???
I do find it a little bizarre that the OP should go from concern over the bar to calling the police.
Any customer in a bar will be fined 2,000 baht if found guilty of smoking in a bar/restaurant - the owner will get fined 20,000 baht.
I am a great believer in 'live & let live' (one of the reasons that I wanted to live in Thailand) if some where is not of my liking then I will quietly tell the owner why & (if nothing improves) go elsewhere. There is no shortage of bars/restaurants in Udon to suit most tastes - 'calling the police' is unnecessary in the extreme. Thankfully we are not yet living in a 'nanny state' & long may it remain so....

AHEM ....A bar fine is hardly directly bad for your health and don't make people sick when they are trying to eat their meals.

Is not P4P illegal thenthat makes me well within my rights to inform the nessasary authorities that a act of the Thai law has been breached
