Custodial Democracy
Thitinan Pongsudhirak seems to hit the nail on the head in his latest opinion piece.

Re: Custodial Democracy
The MFP has its work cut out for it if certain people have their way,
There are a number of policies advocated by MFP to move Thailand forward that are upsetting to the power holders:The hidden "force" behind the senators is unlikely to stop at just blocking Mr Pita from becoming the prime minister. It appears to be hell-bent on driving the MFP into the opposition and, furthermore, into oblivion like its predecessor, the Future Forward Party, which was dissolved by the Constitutional Court.
The Move Forward Party should be commended for not backtracking on its pledges to its voters, even if that means MFP may end up in he opposition.
The party has initiated several policies that no other parties have ever dared to try, among them the abolition of mandatory conscription, military reform, election of provincial governors, abolition of the Internal Security Operations Command and monopolies and, above all, campaigns for amendments to the lese majeste law that has been abused in recent years.
Being in opposition is not a bad idea for the Move Forward Party. In fact, it may be a boon for the party in a way that it can still make use of its potential to the fullest to check the performance of the government. And since most of its MPs are in their 30s and 40s, the MFP can afford to wait another four years while the party wins more support among younger Thais before staging a comeback with a landslide election victory.

When you remove a snakes head does it not die? How many times will a body of MP's have their leadership culled before they begin to back off of so much of their ideals sir? I admire their persistance, but laugh at their naivety...TiT...tamada wrote: ↑August 10, 2024, 12:46 pmNo, they haven't gone.

Millions of Thais also admire their persistence, and would no doubt laugh at your naivety.AmericanExpatUT wrote: ↑August 28, 2024, 1:04 pm
