obama a farang hahaha honest what a question apart for a pocket sized colour testing kit you could alway put him in a romote isarn village and see if the old woman and the kids yell "farang farang"
Re: Is Obama a Farang?
Barack Obama is not yet “the President of the United States,†only the ostensible “President elect†once removed (because he has been purportedly “elected†only by the voters, but not yet by the Electoral College
from the article above, i guess it's technically a mute subject, till he is actually elected/appointed president by EC.

10 to the penny indeed, you only get what you pay for. Unlike so many opinionated Brits... they often run 12 - 15 to the penny. Often resulting in much more than you really expected or want.

Mustard, you might be a class act, and humour is one thing - but, beware - deliberate incitement of anyone on the forum (whether an individual or a group) is in breach of Forum rules & WILL result in action being taken...

Re: Is Obama a Farang?
No problem here Mr. Mustard, just trying to get a little banter going plus my feeble attempt at a bit of humor.
In reference to Mr. Obama, let me give you a comparison... Most Americans would be quick to tell you that they truly enjoyed Mr. Tony Blair, we really enjoyed hearing him speak. But, it's my understanding that a majority of Brits were overjoyed when he was ousted and Mr. Brown took his place. The same goes with Obama... the world in general loves to hear him speak - but...
As for the drill bit... I heard that story about 30 years ago but it wasn't the British but rather the Swiss who drilled a whole through it - LENGTH WISE.

Re: Is Obama a Farang?
I think the Blair/Obama comparison is a fair & possibly a good one paka.
My Blair was an excellent & passionate orator, who, sadly, said very little of actual substance.
He came to power after a few years of a very poor Conservative government offering change & new ideas from a new government.
Much the same could be said of Obama.
Blair delivered VERY little to positively effect the normal citizen but did manage to introduce a few radical changes that was Government interference in activities of a minority of the population - hunting & public smoking are two that spring to mind. His Chancellor of the exchequer was lucky that the world was going through an economic upturn, but still managed to borrow millions & rob private pension schemes of millions more. He also got the UK in two conflicts that were/are dubious to put it mildly.
I think most people were happy when he left, but maybe not so happy now as his successor has succeeded where most thought he would fail - by making Mr. Blair look a class act & a politician of note.
If the first part of your comparison is correct, I hope to hell that the second does not prove to be true as well

Yes agreed on all fronts. Sometimes, nations are ready for change - like 1997 when the Tories were washed out and had no new ideas while Bliar was young, dynamic and different. I suspect the same occurred when Carter vacated the White House and Ronnie moved in.
I'd love to get my teeth into this but we'd be going off topic. Maybe it's worthy of a new thread.

Obama claims 'I knew nothing' as Illinois governor is arrested for putting a 'for sale' sign on his Senate seat
By Daily Mail Reporter

Barack Obama has moved swiftly to distance himself from the arrest of the governor of Illinois for trying to sell his Senate seat to the highest bidder.
The president-elect and his transition team were nervously watching the fallout from the arrest of Rod Blagojevich on corruption charges.
Their biggest fear is that Mr Obama's relationship with Chicago businessman Antonin 'Tony' Rezko will be dragged up as opponents seek to tie the president-elect to Mr Blagojevich.
Rezko, a political fundraiser, faces 10 years in jail on bribery and corruption charges and will be sentenced next month. 'Staggering corruption': Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (left) has been arrested for trying to sell off the vacant U.S. Senate seat left by President-elect Barack Obama

Both Mr Obama and Mr Blagojevich received money and support from Rezko during their campaigns.
The most damming charge against Mr Blagojevich is that he tried to sell Mr Obama's vacant Senate seat to whoever would pay him the most cash.
Mr Blagojevich was arrested after the FBI bugged his phone lines. In one call, he said: 'I've got this thing and it's f***ing golden, and, uh, uh, I'm just not giving it up for f***in' nothing.'
Mr Obama said: 'I had no contact with the governor or his office.'
Blagojevich was accused last night of conspiring to trade his Senate choice to the highest bidder in a ‘corruption crime spree.’
Despite Mr Obama's attempts to distance himself from the scandal, it was being seen in Washington last night as a major embarrassment for him.
In Chicago, the state's largest city, the tradition of corruption goes back past the days of celebrated 1920s gang boss Al Capone.

Although there is no suggestion that the incoming president was involved, Mr Obama was thrust onto the world stage via the political cauldron in Chicago, where he worked as a community organiser and senator and where he is still based until he moves into the White House next month.
Under American law, the Democrat Illinois governor gets to appoint Mr Obama’s successor in the US Senate.
But the FBI recorded him discussing ways of profiting by offering the seat in exchange for the Health Secretary post in the Obama administration, or a lucrative job with a trade union or charity.

Accused: Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been taken into federal custody accused of corruption
He was taped saying the seat was ‘a valuable thing – you don’t give it away for nothing.’
Blagojevich and his chief-of-staff, John Harris, were arrested at their homes in dawn raids yesterday.
He was charged with solicitation of bribery and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
‘The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering,’ said US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.
He said the governor put a ‘for sale’ sign on the naming of a US senator. ‘We were in the middle of a corruption crime spree and we wanted to stop it,’ he added.
According to court papers, Blagojevich had close ties with Antoin Rezko, a Chicago businessman who was involved in a controversial property deal with Mr Obama that was highlighted during the presidential election campaign.
But Mr Fitzgerald said there were ‘no allegations’ that Mr Obama was aware of any alleged scheming.
In Illinois, the governor selects a senator who takes over until the next election if there is a mid-term vacancy.
In return for choosing a union-preferred candidate, he was seeking a ‘substantial’ salary for himself at a nonprofit foundation or union, a spot on a corporate board for his wife, promises of campaign cash, as well as a cabinet post or ambassadorship, said an FBI affidavit.
He was also charged with allegedly threatening to withhold state assistance to the troubled local newspaper group unless it fired editorial writers who had criticised him.
Blagojevich, 51, in his second term, is the latest in a string of Illinois governors to run afoul of the law. His immediate predecessor, George Ryan, is in jail following a federal corruption conviction.

The arrest came as the first cracks in Mr Obama’s new administration emerged in a catfight between his two top women appointees, Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice.
His picks for Secretary of State and US Ambassador to the United Nations squared off in a bitter Washington power struggle over who holds the most sway over foreign policy.
Mrs Rice, a former Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, is said to be pushing to install her own transition team inside the State Department.
Such a move by an incoming United Nations envoy is unheard of because the job is based in New York.
It was being seen as a direct challenge to Mrs Clinton’s authority as America’s top diplomat.
With more than a month still to go before his inauguration, the growing split in his top foreign policy team threatens to dent Mr Obama’s hopes of improving America’s image around the world.
Many in the former First Lady’s camp already looked on Mrs Rice as a traitor because of her enthusiastic backing for Mr Obama during the primaries despite working as a senior state official on President Clinton’s administration.
Washington sources say Mrs Rice wants a say at the State department as part her bid to widen her influence with the new president to play a more significant role than previous UN envoys and elevate her position to his Cabinet.
Technically, Mrs Rice falls under the authority of Mrs Clinton, but some previous UN ambassador’s have held Cabinet rank.
Both women paid separate visits to the State Department’s Foggy Bottom, Washington headquarters on Monday, but did not meet.
‘Let’s just say that Hillary is not going to be pleased at any attempt to undermine her position,’ said one former aide.

50% of the American people voted for this snake oil salesman, shame on them and shame on the rest of us for not stopping this Chicago thug from being the most powerful man in the world. The press here is finally realizing that they have been blindly in the tank for this crook and are now doing what they should have done before the election, expose him for what he is; a rubber mouthed empty suit. I'll keep my guns, freedom and money....you can keep the change!

Interesting izzix but VERY wide of the mark.
The governor's phone & office were tapped the only mention of "O" was in very unfavourable terms & certainly indicated he had zero to do with this sorry affair.
Glad the **** was caught & it, sadly, confirms my suspicion that most politicians have no interest in anything by lining their own pockets & I am CERTAINLY not just talking about USA politicians here

Antoin "Tony" Rezko has been a money source for both the governor and Mr. Obama.
Mr. Rezko has an address in federal prison already. Link to some Rezko Info
Very interesting how now, all of a sudden, the media can piece things together.
