Only one of those speak english, the rest copied it to suit themselves. An English english teacher should earn double providing they are not from Bradford, liverpool, Newcastle, Tooting broadway, or anywhere in the midlands. Even the cornish people should be docked a little bit because they can't quite get it right. Mr. Mash should not even get an interview unless he bribes them with a jar of branston pickle.

I know some Fillapino and Indian native English speakers(American),but they didn't come from either country, their parents did.
I wonder why they are doing this. There are so many things that need changing to give Thais a decent education, and although the competency level of native speakers of a language, this will not improve the system.Comprehensible texts and presentation, plus constant practice of the language be learned, are also needed, otherwise they are wasting their money! But since only 300M is going towards the teachers salaries, the other 50M is the reason!

OT....... if i could spell i could write a book about teaching in Thailand BEEN THERE , DONE IT GOT THE T SHIRT THROWN THE T SHIRT AWAY and without a bribe unless you count rattling the old trout head of English studies in Bkk that is , haha.

IMO NATIVE English teachers should be from England with the odd ###### or Aussie thrown in just for good measure , no to anyone with a weird accent like Scots , Brummies , Geordies etc i cant understand them so what chance has a Thai student , without exception the best place to come from where the Queens English is spoken has to be SCUNTHORPE ,,,,,,, OOrrrr reet .

mash.,,,,,,,, aint no preacher or teacher JUST A HUMBLE SHOPKEEPER.

Can't anyone see the potential reaction from the local teachers who will be sitting alongside these "super stars" earning ten x the salary as them? I had enough remarks when I was teaching for free .

Spot on TB ...... the bad feeling , envy ,friction in the staffroom was very real when i taught in Bkk . A natural reaction when you think about it , i earned 35k-40k pcm (18 class periods per week) while the Thai teachers many with long service , long hours and forced extra duties earned 10 - 12 k .

I taught maths and science to the young prathom kids (loved it) , i did certainly notice there was more bad feeling towards the foreign teachers teaching the Mathyom students as they were on 70k plus per month and seem to act like gods swanning around the school , i always took note of who ate with who at lunch time and who had little food gifts given .... inturn i noticed who was shunned .

An excellen point TB .... all now is for you to admit you know where Scunthorpe is. haha

Wow! What a great initiative by the Thai government. Since my 'official' retirement is fast approaching, this proposal is right up my soi.
