Still, For me Jomtien was different.
I remember Jomtien with the nice big beach, cleaner water and cleaner beach than pattaya.
Last time I was there they were renovating and it seemed rather nice and even child friendly, with playing parks for the children on the beach.
Also Jomtien has not the same quantity of Bars,.... as pattaya.

From the editor of pattaya daily news published on there own website....
...................................................................................................
This resulted in instant action, with the deployment of a huge task force of Thai police officers being assigned to this case. Approximately 50 officers were split into 12 working groups, with each being assigned the duty of investigating a particular aspect of this case. This included searching for witnesses, gathering information from tourist locations (such as Walking Street), working with the Russian Embassy, examining the crime scene, hotel of occupancy, and many other aspects associated with the brutal slaying of these young Russian tourists.

Police have been most thorough in their investigations, and as well as speaking to many witnesses, they have video footage of the young ladies purchasing items from a local shop in the early hours of the morning in question. To date, some interesting facts have emerged, and it is known that these two young ladies arrived as part of a large Russian tourist group of around 60 persons, who booked into the Dragon Beach Hotel, on Jomtien Beach Road. Six of the group were young ladies, with 4 of these girls traveling on to Kanchanaburi, and it is rumored that the two murdered girls flew on free air tickets, which were issued from Thailand. The staff at the Golden Beach Hotel remembered that they had returned to their hotel room to change into their beachwear before proceeding to the nearby beach-front.

At 3.00 am the next morning, (less than 24 hours later), the police officers re-convened at a very big meeting in the Anunthaya Hotel, which is directly opposite the murder scene. Several aspects of this case are coming forth as robbery does not appear to be the motive. As the ladies were wearing heavy make-up, the question has arisen as to whether they were working in the prostitution industry, whilst they were in Pattaya. If this was the case, is possible that these murders were part of a gangland war, that could have erupted between rival groups, over control within this industry.

This case is very worrying for tourist operators in Pattaya, as several Russian women have been attacked in recent months, in what appears to have been violent crimes related to robberies. Both our Mayor, Khun Niran Wattanasartsathorn and Governor Pracha Taerat have over many months, voiced their concerns at Pattaya

If you have ever been to Russia, you will know its very class orientated and the upper class do treat the lower class with disdain. In Russia I have seen ladies kick people out of the way when walking down a street, just because they where in fur coats and the others where in gummies... Please dont think I am justifying anything, its just that I have also had the misfortune of needing to tell 4 big Russian men in Pattaya to tone down their vile language at a nice restaurant. Lucky for me, I must've looked mean that night.... 8)

I could insult everybody living in UT, but I wont.

Just feel sad for all you guys who believe Pattaya is Beach road and thats it.
It is much more than Beach Rd. I'm quite happy with all the shopping and restaurants Pattaya offers, and after crossing Sukhumvit you wont see a tourist for sure.
Driving 35 Minutes to my wifes village and I'm in the country side.

I'm in Pattaya now, visit here regularly, and I can't believe the number of families and Western female tourists that are in town. The demographics are definitely changing. I still love the place. Yeah there's lots of lager louts and it seems like violence is on the rise, but that's to be expected in any party city.

Here's one of the "dregs of society" I found in this "flea pit" :D

Spent a few days in Pattaya earlier this month and we had a great time. A Poorman's Phuket. The city caters to the tourists and expat residents. Two local TV channels are dedicated to the foreign guests in English, German, Japanese and Russian languages. The shopping, restaurants, beach activities and sightseeing trips are unbelievable. Felt as safe on the streets there as anyplace in the world. Like any large city, you need to use a little common sense and street smarts to avoid problems with the criminal element. Won't hesitate to visit Pattaya again soon. 8)

Hi!
I have no pleasant things to say about Pattaya. The beach is dirty and the water is very dark and murky and the shop keepers keep pulling you into their shops. Also traffic pollution and traffic jams.

$3k reward for capture of gunman who killed Thailand tourists

by CARMEN SANCHEZ - CDNN Travel News Editor

PATTAYA, Thailand (26 Feb 2007) -- Police have offered a $3,000 reward for the capture of the gunman who brutally gunned down two female tourists on a beach in Pattaya.

The two women, Livbov Svirkova, 25, and Tatiana Tsimfer, 30, were gunned down on Jomtien Beach in front of the Dragon Beach hotel on Saturday night.

Previous reports by Thailand's state-controlled media attempted to link the victims with prostitution and drugs, however, police have now confirmed that both women were ordinary tourists on their first holiday in Thailand.

Police said they were trying to find out if the victims had somehow become involved in a conflict with Pattaya's notorious crime gangs.

Police also told CDNN that security cameras in the area confirm reports by a hotel staff that the gunman fled the scene of the crime on a motorcycle.

Despite multi-million dollar advertising campaigns aimed at promoting Thailand as Asia's most attractive holiday destination, violent attacks against foreigners have increased sharply in Pattaya, Phuket and other popular resort areas throughout Thailand.

Today The Straits Times, the main newspaper here in Singapore PUBLISHED the "after" photo of the 2 russian females shot on Jomtien beach.

There they are on the deckchairs, with the bloodstains clearly visible. On the table is a small whisky or rum bottle & a can of coke.

I wonder if by publishing the clearly graphic photo is the gov. run paper trying to score more points & a warning for its citizens or tourists considering travelling to Thai..

After more than 2 decades travelling to S'pore & also working here, cannot recall such a pic being published in the paper.

The photos originated from pattaya daily news. Some have been removed since sunday.
OUR RATIONALE FOR SHOWING CANDID PHOTOS OF SLAIN RUSSIAN FEMALE TOURISTS.
We at Pattaya Daily News have recently been criticized for daring to tell the truth about the recent gunning down of two Russian tourists on Jomtien Beach. Commentators from all over the world have slated us for showing photos which are too blatant, but in our defence we have to say that, in our opinion, this is the only way that the Powers That Be will be shamed into doing something positive about the currently high rate of crime in Pattaya, especially as regards tourists, who all too often are seen as easy targets.
This year, Russians have figured prominently among tourist victims. This is largely because few other nationalities are coming here in post coup-Thailand. After a previous case of assault on Russian tourists, the authorities promised to bring in reinforcements from the Thai marines and other local police forces to patrol the beaches, especially, yet to our knowledge this has just been empty posturing. There has been no apparent bolstering of the security forces.

It is partially because we wish the world to know how bad the state of affairs is here in Pattaya. We should also say that we are not alone in displaying lurid photographs of slayings, gruesome road accidents etc., all the Thai newspapers do it as a matter of course (our Thai version included). Yet, it is because we have a global reach that our online newspaper has been accessed by all and sundry all over the world, (not least from Russia) and the case has roused such controversy!

It is also significant that all the photos of the two victims were taken by our staff photographers in the presence of the local police, who raised no objection to us so doing. We actually have far more gruesome photos which we chose not to publicise. We went as far as we dared.

We will rest our case at this point. No doubt further controversy will be aroused, but we wish to reiterate that the prime reason for showing these candid pictures was to persuade the authorities to get their act together, put their promises into action and actually do something positive to make Thailand a safe destination for tourists and residents alike.

Tour guide heads murder suspects in Pattaya Russian slaying investigation

A tour guide would now appear to be the latest suspect in the prominent ongoing murder investigation into the death of the two Russian female tourists according to the Commissioner of the Provincial Police Bureau 2, Police Lieutenant General Assawin Kwanmuang.
The case has for once roused the local authorities to action; like never before. And with good reason as Pattaya
