It's Dr. Thamanat

Post by Laan Yaa Mo » July 14, 2024, 11:29 am

How nice to see that Dr. Thamanat has earned his Ph.D. Kudos are due to the gentleman who previously was awarded a 7-year stay in an Australian institution for illegally importing flour into that country.

A recently elected Senator has also earned her Ph.D from the same highly regarded institution of Higher Learning.

Re: Dr. Thamanat and Politics

Poor Dr. Thamanat. Not only did he lose his cabinet post as Agriculture Minister when Prime Minister Srettha was ousted for appointing him to the post, he is miffed at his former protector and promoter, the self-styled collector of expensive watches, General Prawit. It seems Prawit has neglected to nominate our beloved flour exporter for a cabinet post in the new administration. Apparently, Prawit is entitled to nominate four worthy members of his party to serve in the new administration. How nice. How convenient. However, the popular Thamanat is not one of candidates put forth by the honourable General Prawit.

Consequently, Thamanat is now threatening to leave General Prawit's political loyalists and take 29 of the 40 elected members with him. Oh my! The drama that is going to ensue in Thai politics.

One hopes that the flour business will keep the disgruntled former cabinet minister occupied and out of trouble.

I know Australia has very strict laws on quarantine, but sentenced to 6 years, and serving 4, for just 3.2kg of flour seems terribly harsh. :-k

Obviously, it was overly harsh, or the General would not have given Thamanat his full backing for a cabinet post in the former government. One hopes to see a reconciliation between the two in the near future.

I see the good General is having problems on a different front.

The great man has already apologised and indicated he was just having a bit of fun. No harm was intended or done.

Two weeks ago, he was greeting a Thai boxer in Paris for winning a medal, and here he is back home and under the gun from the press and the flour trader, Dr. Thamanat. It is doubtful if this is part of his plan for Thailand. At this rate, it might take a while to get his protege, Big Joke, back on the police force.

Despite not outlining some of the sins of the Shinawatra family whilst in power, this Canadian journalist offers a useful analysis of the state of democracy in Thailand. It highlights and reminds of the real rulers behind this democracy.

The only parties and politicians that are still standing are notable in their complete and utter avoidance of anything to do with Section 112 of the Thai Criminal Code. They don't even mention it. Chaikasem Nitisiri was PT's first nominee for PM after Srettha got sacked. He had the hot-ticket for the job on Thursday night, but by Friday morning, someone had reminded the coalition MP's that K. Chaikasem had made some comments many, many years ago that suggested that he was open to the lese majeste laws being reviewed. And with that, bang! his nomination vanished and Ung-ing go the nod.

Along with Thaksin's double-pardon, and being the sole signatory on the Crown Property Bureau checkbook, that tells me all I need to know about who's really wearing the pants in the Thai household.
