Yes indeed GT..
You only have to look at the single case of Jimmy Savile in the UK.
That is maybe high profile but there have been innumerable cases of the years of adults in the UK abusing children over long periods of time.
To extrapolate that (as dazzz has done for Thailand) into a belief that this means that ordinary UK people do not care about child abuse is, frankly, both astonishing & offensive..

An interesting Article about Thai Police which gives a better idea of why this Investigation has turned out the way it has .... http://cgmoore.com/blog/view.asp?id=784

I have no idea why you say that ? If you rape a child in my country and get caught you will go to jail probably for life and when released will be on a sex offenders register for life .like jimmy saville and others they did get caught and most of the people who got away with it was a long time ago when people did not know it was so common and children were not listened to. Now children are taught and teachers about abuse in school ,there are telephone hotlines, social workers visiting the school periodically. When my neighbours in uk found there was a convicted *** living on my estate they stoned his house and he had to move.GT93 wrote:What an extraordinary post dazzz.
I think you'll find a very low % of *** offenders get charged let alone convicted in western countries as well and that attitudes to *** offences vary across cultures and vary in the same culture over time.
I know some rapists and murderers who live by me who live their life as normal as everyone else including the woman next to me who killed her 10yr old nephew with a machete when i just came here, went to hospital and now takes drugs and walks up and down my path everyday. She would not do that where i live in uk. the police man who shot another policeman in an ambush at a rail crossing next to my house after argueing over the drugs they sell in the police station, his wife still lives here and so does the murderer. ???
2 Boys shot to death at festivals i attended 1 by a drunk policeman , no arrests. I boy beat to death by about 20 thugs at a festival in front of women and children no arrests. One 19 yr old boy beat to death by 7 14/15 yr olds near my house , no arrests , to young ?
A guy came to my house a while ago and had a couple of beers with me . I asked my wife who he was , she said her cousin. I asked why i had not seen him before she said he been in prison for 3 yrs for raping a 14 yr old girl. He left very quickly . When i asked my wife why she did not tell him to go she replied ,not polite !
When i went to one boys house who had been shot to pay my respects i saw his mother laughing and joking with some people the day after her son was shot.
Now this week after another fatality i personally know 38 people who have died since i have lived here, most motorbikes a the rest murders.
In wales i lived for 26 yrs i a same size village as my thai village , 2 boys did on a motorbike , 1 woman died in a fire , no murders , no rapes.
Cannot ever compare this countries crime and punishment with uk or most western countries and doing so is an insult
Thai people do not care to much for rape or murder and if these 2 tourist were thai it would all be forgotten by now

Excellent posts from Bob and Ardie. Bob must have written some good English essays when he was at school in the first half of the 20th century? I'm guided on Bob's age by Zids wind ups of Bob (nearly as mischievous as mine)
Clearly the Thai government needs to pay Thai police more if they want to reduce corruption. It also seems some parts of Thailand are particularly corrupt and very likely to fit up innocent people even at the risk of severe international embarrassment. I'm surprised the soldiers are letting them do this. Hopefully by Thai standards Udon isn't nearly as bad.

You're sadly probably right on the last point here dazzz as it seems the perps are connected to important local people.dazzz wrote: Thai people do not care to much for rape or murder and if these 2 tourist were thai it would all be forgotten by now
However your first point is too wide. The last time I checked my Mrs. and step-daughters weren't too keen on murder. In future I'd prefer you wrote sentences such as this as "Thai people except GT 93's Mrs., step daughters and Thai friends" ... Some other posters might want you to add in their family and friends.

I think they would actually have to start paying them first, before they could pay them more.
One of my employees on Samui just helped her brother land a job in the Surat Thani police. He's just an entry level pavement pounder. Cost to be hired in was 1 million thb. No real salary, has to make that back plus interest somehow.

Dazzz, upon rereading your posts I think they are getting weirder and weirder. Do you just make this stuff up or did you forget your medication this morning? You're starting to come across like you need to see a psychiatrist.

Hey dazzz, I fit your category of pervert, my wife of 7 years was less than half my age when we met. Careful what you say, ese'. There are lots of us around. In America if you are a person of color or poor, you are convicted whether you did anything wrong or not and sent to prison. Highest prison population in the world. If you are white and rich you get away with war crimes, ruining the the economy and destroying the working/middle class. While not the same as Thailand, there are many similarities, same, same but different.
My wife says all her friends say the guys are scapegoats. Bi-partisan agreement on this by the majority of farangs and Thais.

Interesting piece on policing in Thailand. I wonder how the widespread dissent amongst many of the populace will manifest in the near future?

I'm as reckless or foolish as the next bloke marjamlew. The Thais usually aren't big on dissent. This ain't Haight Ashbury in the 1960s. I expect change to be gradual and slow. Hopefully in the the right direction. Time for some Jimi Hendrix.

Re: Another shocking tourist death
My first few years here I rarely heard complaints from Thais about the clearly corrupt police however over the last couple of years it's rare that a day goes by without overhearing them complain, and that's a great start. Your average Thai is becoming more vocal about being the have nots while the police hold a firm grip on the "have's"

The Thai charge d'affaires has been summoned to the UK Foreign Office over concerns about the inquiry into the murders of two British tourists.
Hannah Witheridge, 23, and 24-year-old David Miller were killed in an attack on the island of Koh Tao last month.
Foreign Office minister Hugo Swire told the diplomat there was "concern" about how the investigation had been handled.
Two Burmese workers are said to have confessed to killing the pair, who were discovered on a beach on 15 September.
Police in Thailand have denied subsequent reports that the two men had withdrawn their confessions.

Maybe They could tamper with the DNA samples!
Get a couple of slappers in the cell, ,and lay on a orgy for the two.
Then when when they get snozzled with plied booze, take fresh samples
Case solved!

Well the games afoot, the British Police in a BBC report are travelling to Thailand to assist in the investigation and the Thai Police chief in today's Bangkok Post states they will be barred from investigating.
So one really wonders , what the hell have the Thais have got to hide, plus the fact that lawyers for the accused are almost denied good one to one consultation time.
This debacle has shown the Thai police up to be not only incompetent but corrupt and useless and now the whole world knows it. Not that I would castigate all Thai Police, i have met some really good and caring ones but unfortunately they are in the minority

Putting aside for the moment the competence or otherwise of the RTP, what do you think the reaction would be in the UK if the situation was reversed ie a Thai citizen was murdered in London, and the RTP - unsolicted - decided to send over a couple of their finest detectives to "assist" with the investigation?Khun Paul wrote:Well the games afoot, the British Police in a BBC report are travelling to Thailand to assist in the investigation and the Thai Police chief in today's Bangkok Post states they will be barred from investigating.

Re: Another shocking tourist death
Not a big deal really, at least not in countries where the rule of law is still considered to be in effect. Rtp would be mocked and ridiculed in the u.s. Because we are still allowed to speak freely and their incompetence and corruption is indisputable. Rtp would be as helpful to an investigation in the u.s. As homey the clown.jackspratt wrote:Putting aside for the moment the competence or otherwise of the RTP, what do you think the reaction would be in the UK if the situation was reversed ie a Thai citizen was murdered in London, and the RTP - unsolicted - decided to send over a couple of their finest detectives to "assist" with the investigation?Khun Paul wrote:Well the games afoot, the British Police in a BBC report are travelling to Thailand to assist in the investigation and the Thai Police chief in today's Bangkok Post states they will be barred from investigating.
