Carlsberg May Return To Thailand !!
[quote]Carlsberg Hopes to Re-enter Thailand
Carlsberg A/S, whose beer is sold in 130 countries, will invest as much as five billion DKK (878 million USD) in Asia over the next three years. In spite of having left Thailand a few years ago, the Danish beer giant is once again eyeing the Thai market.
Carlsberg might soon re-enter Thailand. With a healthy bottom line to boost its self-confidence, the Danish company has announced its plans to invest up to five billion DKK in Asia over the next three years. Rumors of a possible re-entry into Thailand have been circulating for a while, but now Carlsberg confirms that it is only a matter of time before it happens.

I was never that keen on Carlsberg too, my favourite beers are Leo and San Miguel, but would switch to Beer Laos at the drop of a hat if it was available.
Hopefully they'll sell Beer Laos in Udon soon. They sell it at all the bars in Bangers so I can't see the problem of selling it in Udon, after all Laos is just down the road.

I am drinking a frosty Beer Lao right now. My wonderful relatives bring me a case of bottles every few weeks when they come to visit. Even after living in Germany for 10 years, Beer Lao is the best. I have a problem with the custom of putting ice in beer. Beer should be served iced. But we have worked that one out. They only bad thing about the Beer Lao is that it makes me hungry for a bit of BBQ dog.
Finally got a chance to try a Beer Lao at Gullivers in Bangkok a few weeks ago and see why everybody raves about it. A very fine beer. Maybe the local brewery distributors have something to say about not allowing it to be sold in Udon. Guess they can't stand up to the competition, eh?
Ice in your beer? IMO, Beer Chang tastes even better after poured over ice. Heard people complain about suffering headaches the next day after drinking more than a few Changs but maybe the "watering down" effect of the ice can be beneficial, as well.

you are bang on there, Chang with ice tastes twice as nice, i don't no why it just does. Even when i buy a box here in uk i stick the bottles in the Freezer just as they are on the turn pop the top and enjoy. But still i do add ice too.Mr P wrote:Beer Chang tastes even better after poured over ice.
Carlsberg was a winner for me when it was sold in Thailand but it was the stronger Export version, the standard is so-so, ok with a Indian curry.
So beer lao is not available in Udon, you can get in Pattaya, and Bangkok and i can buy it here in the uk, but you can't get it in a city near to the laos border Mmmm, maybe thats right about the local distributors, if its as good as everyone claims then it could hit sales of Thai beer, just to show willing, i will be giving my full support to he industry soon.

It must have been all those years living in Germany that ruined me. That and working in my father's bar in Minnesota, which was of course filled with Germans and Scandanavians. Water down beer? May as well put mayo on lutefisk.
Beer Lao is potent stuff and I notice the family members do consumer more vast quantities than I do.
I can not put away the Mekong whiskey or the Lao homebrew the way they do either. But then, the 6' tall 120 pound Russian GF could drink me under the table with vodka, a fact unfortunatly learned in a Yalta disco.
Friedenlunds is a great Norskie beer, also a Carlsberg product as I believe also is Nissen, from Denmark. Neither of those are exported to the best of my knowledge.
Beer Lao is not sold here because it would destroy the competition. Leo, Chang, Singha, Tiger could not compete. Asahi could, but it is so much more expensive. The girls at the Jazz have learned to keep a few Asahi in the cooler for me. Good customer service there and right across the street.

i would'nt call it watering down beer, simply taking the temprature down, in some beers brings out the taste more the colder it gets, what with the heat in Thailand, chang is much better with it, plus if it the beer is not in the glass long enough the amount of water that mix's in with it is a very small percent.mussel wrote: Water down beer? I certainly would stand in a pub in the UK with ice in my pint glass, although when drinking certain ciders its better to have a glass full of ice.
Never tried lutefisk, but by the sounds of it adding mayo to it may make the Dish of Horned fish soaked in drain Cleaner go down easier.

They serve Asahi beer at the Arena next to Nong Prajak lake. They have a promotion too, buy one large bottle and get a smaller bottle free.
You can't beat an Asahi beer with ice (the colder the better) after a couple of laps of Nong Prajak lake, the added bonus is that it's served by a stunning girl in a small dress.

The Jazz has (had) the same promotion going. When I admired the waitress's Asahi shirt, she said that if I brought in my own t-shirt, she would have the logo screened on it. It did and she came through (with the shirt). Now, of course, the wife has banned me from going there alone and gives me "the look" whenever I suggest going over there.lee wrote:They serve Asahi beer at the Arena next to Nong Prajak lake. Lutefisk seperates the true Norwegians from those with merely Norwegian surnames. Same for Swedes. Any nation that could take an attempt at poisoning and turn it into a holiday treat, is one that I will still claim ethnic association with.
True, it isn't haggis.
In my father's bar, ice was not even served with whiskey. Anyone who even asked for ice with alcohol was looked at askance. It was a railroad town. Even the women drank boilermakers. Tough place. Ice went in mixed drinks for when we got city women in town.
