Thai universities are not producing quality graduates
Although I am, in theory, against the commercialisation of higher education, in a developing country such as Thailand universities must serve the marketplace so that the country can continue to grow both economically and intellectually.
Having taught at both rajabhat and major public universities in Thailand, and having watched thousands upon thousands of students graduate with little or no skill within their major programme of study, I've come to the conclusion that it is only through "fierce competition" that Thai universities will finally be forced to get their act together, develop proper curricula, fire incompetent instructors and provide students with the education and skills they need to succeed in work and in life.

Is it the Thai education system? Or the lack of motivation in the students?
Or the Thai culture? Specifically, regarding the culture, the concept of
"kreeng jai", reticent, tending not to talk or give out information, reserved, taciturn, closemouthed, etc. In so much awe of a professor, that a student would hesitate or not ask at all, a question, or ask for something to be repeated, or admit they didn't understand something. It's one of the things that drives me crazy when dealing with the Thai's.

Through a little social engineering i have managed to sit in on many hours of lessons at local schools and i have NEVER seen a child ask a question of the teacher.100 per cent pure regurgitation of facts with no child input at all.They would never dream of raising their hands and being the centre of attention,losing face by appearing to be ignorant.
