13 year old girl raped and killed on Thai overnight train

Post by Zidane » July 9, 2014, 8:12 am

A 13 year old Thai girl returning from a trip to see her grandmother, with her sisters, was raped and killed on an overnight train from Surat Thani to Bangkok.
The murderer,a 22 year old railway worker high on drugs and alcohol, then flung her body from the train. The body of the young girl was discovered near the railway line at Prachuap Kiri Khan.
The girl, nickname Kaem, was sharing a sleeper with her sisters and was, possibly, attacked as she tried to go to washroom and never returned.
Many people in Thailand have called for the death penalty to be enforced in this case. The man faces charges of rape, murder and concealing a body that does carry the death penalty.
Rapists usually get jail terms of between 4 and 20 years and a fine but a petition online is asking for the death penalty to be mandatory in cases like this. The petition states that after sentencing, offenders are usually pardoned but return to society to commit these crimes again.
Police in Pranburi are also in the spotlight after claims that they failed to take action after the girls family reported her missing.
RIP Kaem

A job for the new executioner who replaced the 'last executioner. Poor girl may she RIP. Let him rot in jail until his execution, but it may not come to that when his fellow inmates find out his crime.

From Thai PBS

SRT governor Praphat Chongsa-nguan said Tuesday that the legal department had been instructed to come up with a regulation banning the sale of all alcoholic drinks on all trains. Passengers can bring their alcoholic drinks on board but if they are seen drinking on board they will be invited to get off the trains, he added.

He went on saying that the SRT would step up background checks of all its staffers and employees, especially temporary employees to find out whether any of them have criminal records.

He disclosed that the suspect who confessed of raping and killing the 13-year old girl while travelling on a sleeper train from Surat Thani to Bangkok on Sunday was found out to be a former drug peddler without the knowledge of the SRT. The suspect was recently upgraded as permanent employee from a temporary employee, he said.

Sacking the SRT governor and the head of his HR dept. for not doing their job and having a system in place to stop junkies being employed in the first place would be a better reaction

"SRT would step up background checks of all its staffers and employees, especially temporary employees to find out whether any of them have criminal records".

Too little too late for this poor girl. Surely even here they must have the ability to check Criminal records of potential employees. This piece of slag was a former drug peddler. Had this been know hopefully he would never have been employed and this young girl would be alive today.

This was on the thai news this morning only it said the disgusting specimen of a human being was 22 . I had tears in my eyes listening to the girls mother , she was so upset and the video of the little body on the stretcher really upset me . This man should be executed full stop . The government is elected to carry out the will of the people same as all countries and without a doubt the will of the people would be to execute people like him as they should in all countries.
A year ago i went to buy tickets on the night train udon to bkk as i did about 3/4 times a year with my wife and 4 yr old boy. I was told by the ticket guy as he was 4 he would now have to pay full price but would get his own bed. I told him no way was he sleeping in his own bed on a train full of strangers as anyone could just pick him up and carry him away when he was sleeping. He would not wake up . He would have to sleep with me . The guy said up to you but you still have to pay for him . Total price was 2150 baht. I declined and we all flew on promo flight 2,300baht which is why on another post somebody says airlines are so busy. 8yrs ago train 456baht ,today 780baht. 8 yrs ago i paid 2300baht for a flight this coming october i paid 950 baht .
I know this girl was 13 and the news said she went to the toilet so no comparison with a 4 yr old but this rule is absolutely crazy and i will be contacting them about this rule but prob to no avail .

Thankfully there are alternative political theories on the role of politicians and quite a few countries and the majority of their citizens prefer not to have capital punishment. Of course if you frame the issue around a heinous murder such as this people are going to respond more with anger than considered reflection.

You say thankfully i say unfortunately. This world is grossely overpopulated so seems a good idea at least to get rid of the most evil amongst us.
This man raped and suffocated a 13 yr old girl and imo has lost his right to life more so than the civilians killed by drone attacks and bombings carried out by the western world which for some strange reason killing women and children by collateral damage is acceptable but , to me is murder. any child killed by a drone or bomb the guy who authorised it should be charged with murder including obamaha or cameron.
Killing children to me is never acceptable and whilst killing children is ok for politicians but killing child rapists and murderers is not ok shows what a twisted set of ethics we have.
I am not sure who has had a referendum on capital punishment but i am sure most countries would accept it for child rape and murder as i and all parents certainly would .
This little girl had a right to life and her rapist and killer does not.

You are right i will blow a gasket and have every right to do so after seeing the video of the police finding the body and as they were carrying her out of the trees on a stretcher her little leg slipped out from under the sheet.
If you do not blow a gasket at crimes like this when do you blow a gasket . I am not the same as you .i come from wales in uk where violent death is at a minimum and do not know anyone in my 59 yrs who has been murdered.
Why dont you go and chat to the mother or even more difficult perhaps imagine it is your daughter. I know 100% the whole world would want him executed and all others like him only to be stopped by vote winners , the politicaly correct and do gooders of which you seem to be one.

You might be surprised.

For the record, I am firmly opposed to the death penalty. Thailand law allows for state killing (ie execution), but clearly, as this case shows, it is not a deterrent. If that makes me "politically correct" and/or a "do gooder" (whatever that means) then so be it.

If, as you suggest, 100% (or even a vast majority) support something, how can it be a "vote winner" to oppose that?

Dao n i have followed this terrible crime on the news over the last couple of days , the coverage has been graphic as well as and obviously upsetting .. the death of a teen in any way is devastating let alone murder which makes it even worse ... IMO the jury is out on the death penalty anywhere in the world however some clean cases like this it must be a strong consideration .

RIP young Kaem ,,,

As for your druggie scum killer if he evades the death penalty then ROT IN HELL and lets hope he meets some guys in the hole who dont let him forget what he has done .

I too am firmly opposed to the death penalty. I don't think the state should have the right to execute people and I think Thailand also has to take the additional step of stopping extra-judicial killings.

It follows I don't want this troubled young man if he is guilty executed. I wrote "troubled" to push dazzz's buttons as he seems to want to push mine. If he's guilty he clearly has some problems. They might be so severe that he cannot be safely released until he is an infirm old man.

I also think other crimes such as the murder of old people are also pretty horrific. Some child killings don't even result in a sentence of imprisonment - e.g. depressed mothers who kill their own child.

I expect a flood of posts from the execute the bastard school. These views tend to thrive on the internet but not in the bear pit of politics or legislatures. I think the jury decided long ago that the death penalty is unacceptable. You only need to look at the quality of countries carrying out executions.

The mood in Thailand seems to be reflected in this article in the Nation.
CONCERNED NETIZENS have called for mandatory death sentence for rape-and-murder crimes, in an angry and swift reaction to the tragic rape and murder on Sunday night of a 13-year-old victim by a State Railway of Thailand employee on a moving train.

Good information if you want to know what countries supported the death penalty between 1998 and 2007.

Two comments:
On the nationmedia article: I'd hate to think that facebook 'likes' are being used as an indication that the majority of Thais support the death penalty. It's like saying a majority of Fox News viewers believe Obamacare should be overturned. That doesn't mean the population as a whole supports it.
On the deathpenaltyinfo.org article: I'd think a more apropos article would be the one at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_of_cap ... by_country

I liken the death penalty debate with the torture debate. There will most always be cases where people who don't otherwise support torture find it okay to suddenly support it. If days after 9/11 the American public were asked if it'd be okay to string up the guilty parties by their testicles and let them hang in Rockefeller Center, I have little doubt a majority would have supported it. But when the dust settled, the majority didn't........of course, there's always Dick Cheney......who is convinced to this day he did no evil.
