The former 1970s glam rock star signed the register on his return from Vietnam, where he served nearly three years in prison for molesting two young girls.
He was due to appear in court next month to challenge the order but his solicitor withdrew the appeal in a letter to the court, a spokesman for Harrow Crown Court said.
Under the terms of the order, the 64-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, can travel abroad but must inform police if he plans to be away for more than three days.
In the letter, Glitter's solicitor said his client did not think he would get a fair trial because of media attention on the case.
The decision means his name will remain on the register for life along with his address, date of birth and National Insurance number. He will be required to notify the police if he moves house, or stays somewhere else for seven days.
A foreign travel order granted at Ashford Magistrates' Court in September prevents him from going to France and Spain. The order is in place until the end of March.
Police can apply for a foreign travel order if they think one is needed to protect children outside the UK from serious sexual harm.
Breaking the terms of the register is a criminal offence and can lead to a prison sentence of five years.
In March 2006, Glitter was given a three-year sentence by a Vietnamese court for abusing two girls aged ten and 11.
The former chart-topping singer was convicted of downloading child pornography in the UK in 1999 after a computer repair shop found the images on his laptop.
He served two months of a four-month sentence.
