A man who tried to hire a prostitute to take his 14-year-old son's virginity as a present was spared jail by a British court on Friday.

The Polish national took the boy out in his car and allowed him to pick out the prostitute, who was standing at the side of the road in the red-light district of Nottingham, central England.

But the 42-year-old father was arrested because the teenager had chosen an undercover police officer, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was handed a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, after he admitted a charge of trying to solicit a woman to have sex with a child, the Press Association reported.

The court heard that the father, who came to Britain eight years ago, was arrested last July during an undercover operation by the city's vice squad.

Prosecutor Adrian Harris said the man and his son had approached the undercover officer whose code name was Sarah and beckoned her over.

He asked "Sarah" how much it would cost for her to have sex with his son and they agreed on a $30 fee. However, when the car pulled over, the man was arrested by plainclothes police officers.

"The boy said that they had driven past the girl and his dad pointed to her and said 'will she do?'," Harris said.

"He said 'yes' and they had turned round. He said his dad did this because he was still a virgin and he was taking care of that for him."

Judge Jonathan Teare said he would spare the father jail because of his excellent character and that he believed he did not mean any harm to his son.

"You have a duty of care to your son and that is to look after his moral welfare, not as you might think to break him in to the ways of sex through a prostitute," he said.

The court was told the boy would continue to live with his father.

It is a pity the judge imposes his own morality on the father and son. I see nothing wrong with the events. I do wonder though why it has been posted here.

I think it's bizarre, what kind of a weirdo goes out trying to procure women for his son? And what happened to childhood? I don't understand why there's an urgency for British children to reach adulthood so rapidly, Thai society seems far more relaxed about kids growing up. Maybe it's the British obsession with its consumer society; everybody wants everything now.

The whole episode is very sad and sordid in my view.

Wouldn't be so bad if the lad was a lot older...but at 14 its way to young to be having sex with a pro, and illegal.....but then you read he is east european so thats maybe what they do in that part of the world., should of spent some time in jail imo...as a lesson.

And it Pounds £ in UK and not Dollors $...well last time i looked it was.

Yes, of course. He could claim a culture difference thing but I'm not sure if that's acceptable practice in Poland. Maybe he is really just a weirdo and Polish people are reading the story in UK, thinking, 'what a Nugget'.

Nottingham Crown Court heard the man, 42, had approached the undercover policewoman in the Mapperley area in July believing her to be a prostitute.
He admitted trying to solicit a woman to have sex with a child.
The court heard the father was arrested during an undercover operation by the city's vice squad.
The man drove up to the undercover officer and asked her how much she would charge for sex with his son, who was sitting next to him in the car.
Judge Jonathan Teare said he was not sending the father to prison because of his previous excellent character and that he believed he did not mean any harm to his son.
He said: "What you were doing that night was to expose your 14-year-old son to a prostitute because you didn't know she was a police officer.
"You have a duty of care to your son and that is to look after his moral welfare not, as you might think, to break him into the ways of sex through a prostitute."
The father's barrister Matthew Smith said: "There is a thorough sense of shame the defendant feels.
"It's completely at odds with every other part of his character."
Mr Smith added that the boy would be allowed to continue to live with his father.
The defendant will be placed on the sex offenders register for five years.

Saw it a couple of times in Phuket, Dad and young son walking out with a girl each, Kid around 16 !! Wish my Dad had done that, especially in Thailand

Yes wazza, its a bit windy ...No Poms involved though.

He was a Polish geezer, he had a young polish son...he went looking for a 'lady'... to buy a bit of fun.... the police caught him at it... and he faced doing time...as what he did was to commit foolish crime.

Yes, I agree...it was foolish of the father to attempt what he attempted, in the way he attempted it.
There are many creative and sensitive ways of going about what papa had in store for the young lad. But, using a hardened street walkers is not one of them.
I'd share some of the ways that came to my mind...but that would be too much info .
