Sir Winston Churchill. Top of the Pops.

Post by trubrit » October 5, 2010, 7:38 am

Sir Winnie and the Central Band of the RAF enter the top of the pops album charts at no 4 with the 70th Anniversary album
"Reach for the Skies" featuring his rousing speeches set to music.
A must for me . :D
Incidentally this makes him the first Prime Minister ever to be in the TOP charts .

Have already ordered a copy. He would have made a great 'forumite.'

Well I presume you are joking but in case any members reading this do not realise that, I will explain .
Ted Heath and his band were foremost in producing the Big Band sound, very popular around the 40's. I myself saw him play on many occasions at the Hammersmith Palais in London. Unfortunately he died in '69. Although his widow did reform the band and I believe it was going strong until the Millennium year .
Edward Heath (Ted). Leader of the Conservative party, served as Prime Minister from 1970-1974 .Obviously not the same man. So my statement of Sir Winston being the first PM ever to be in the Pop charts is correct .
For the historians: Hammersmith Palais de Danse, to give its full title was demolished in 2007 and now has a modern office block in its place . Thats progress for you .
