I lived in England for 50 years and can't ever remember hearing any race of people being called "crackers"
those who 'cracked' the whip in slavery days. directed mainly toward those of white european decent. the term is mean to be an insult to white people, but since few know its meaning, the insult goes unrecognized.

Racist, bigoted U.S. progressives like to spread myths and disinformation, such as southerners are crackers, about southerners. I am a southerner. You can find many progressive slurs, but rarely truth or sustance.

yes, the progressives seem to always have a problem when it comes to truth and substance.

Not only do few know its meaning, even fewer, apparently have ever heard of it. Think you just made that one up Tilo .
As a student of the English language I can tell you there are two generally accepted definitions of " crackers". The first is a startling attractive young lady, a right cracker . The second is normally reserved for someone not mentally complete as in, 'He's bloody crackers " A possible third definition is used to describe those festive decorations used to adorn the Xmas table properly known as bon-bons but called crackers after the sound they make when pulled .This giving you the following combination . He may be crackers but he pulled a right little cracker at Xmas, and everything went with a bang.
An insult to a white whip wielding European? I am sure they would have thought of something a bit stronger .Don't you? :-k

Yep, its hard to figure out what happened there. Nearly every one of those states were settled by Brits, Irish and/or Scots. Just another mystery I reckon. Maybe they actually spoke something resembling ENGLISH a long time ago.

Upon reading some of the previous posts I was starting to think that maybe a few people are going crackers. However, just at that time the young tart next door called in, she is an absolute cracker, so we had a quick wrestle followed by a nice cup of tea with some vintage cheese on crackers. She told me she has bought some crackers for the table for Christmas Dinner and everyone can pull 'em to get the silly hat and the always hilariously funny joke. Bugger ... some noisy buggers are letting off crackers down the street! Ohhh well ... I can watch Robbie Coltrane in Cracker on TV tonight.

I've gotta say .... 'I'm having a bloody cracker of a day' ...... :D

i remember getting a chain email from america saying something about if u put bird food in the garden, birds will flock to it, if you take it away the birds will go somewhere else.

I think this represents both America AND britain, we are both argueably the best two countrys in the world if you judge it by democracy, freedom of speech, religion, career choice, stability, wealth. i dont think there is any arguement.

Whether we like it or not america has, and will be for the next 10 years of so be the most powerful country in the world.

We BOTH have serious immigration problems, thats because we both have things like 'welfare' and 'child benefit'

I dont think any american can argue that they dont have the worst immigration problem in the world, miami is practically spanish, atlanta is practically black, newyork is the biggest mixture of cultures in the world, and L.A is half spanish quater black and a few rich white people.

But no one bears in mind that america is HUGE. look at texas alone, its like 3 times the size on the whole of the united kingdom.

I think we both need to say you have to be a american/british citizen to have ANY welfare or ANY health care or infact any benifits atall.

britain has problems and america has problems and frankly if it didnt

why are we in thailand???

You put these two countries so high on a pedestal, yet choose to live here. If the many problems have made you choose to live elsewhere how can you argueably say they are the two best countries in the world. What a contradiction.

Trubrit, the first time I came across the word 'crackers' in a negative sense was in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird.
I think a black kid called a white girl a 'cracker', and she responded by saying, 'crackers are good to eat, niggers are only good to beat'. In general, most black people will know what is meant if you call someone a 'cracker'.

I threw the cracker reference in just to show that racism is not restricted to white people. The Cantonese, for example, still refer to whites as 'gwei-lo', and some Chinese still think anyone who is not Chinese is an inferior, ignorant barbarian. The Japanese too hold some pretty strong views about the superiority of their race over others. In Burma I was told by one guy if I live my life well I will be re-born as a Burmese and not as a lowly white Canadian. Many people in India still hold to the caste system, and in many Caribbean countries, 'black is beautiful', but not too black, and there are social gradations based on how 'white' one is.

Yes, but on this forum it is - and in some cases, with apparent pride.

Just read some comments made by PIENMASH about the immigration issues in the UK. Funny you would be upset by that then choose to live in a country where you are a visible minority without the rights of a Thai. Seems to me thats a contradiction.

Harper Lee did indeed write a cracker of a novel ... it is right up there with the likes of Pride and Prejudice and the film production of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' was a cracker too. In no way can one mock such works of art.

Come on now JACKSPRATT how could anyone on this forum be a racist. I am assuming 99% are white. Most choose to live in a country where they are the visible minority, surrounded by brown skinned Asians. Unless of course they somehow feel superior to there hosts and that feeds there insecurity. No I don't think so eh!!!! Anyway Thais will get the last laugh we cannot own land or property(some exceptions), our stay is restricted by visa rules and can be revoked at any time, we cannot work(again some exceptions). We drain our funds from our homelands to live. No, how could anyone be a racist, if they are then they are just fooling themselves...LOL

1st time, how many good white folk lived in the southern states of the USA up until the 70s or 80s.

It seems to me that racism requires an expression of your racist beliefs, not the mere fact that you choose to live somewhere.

And if you dislike Bobo the circus clown -- you are a RACIST! Automatically.

No exchanges, no returns, no excuses.
Anybody that disagrees with a single policy, program or idea of Bobo's -- is a flat-out, stone-cold RACIST!

Lets say you are white and a racist and choose to live in a country where you are surrounded by non-whites, well are you saying that isn't a contradiction or at least a little silly.
