I’m sure that some of you have been wondering when this preacher boy was going to chime in and give my two cent’s worth, so this will be my first and last comment on this topic:

In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount He uses dogs and pigs as representative of those who would ridicule, reject, and blaspheme the Gospel of Christ once it is presented to them. Believers are not to expose the Gospel to those who have no other purpose than to trample it and return to their own evil ways. Repeatedly sharing the Gospel with someone who continually scoffs and ridicules Christ is like casting pearls before swine. Therefore, in Matthew 7:6 Jesus pointedly says:

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces."

This is exactly what is happening now with this topic, and there is a very good explanation in the Bible for this anomaly. You see, in Romans 3 there are verses which describes the corrupt and depraved state of all men, till grace restrain or change them:

“There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.

Romans 8:7 goes further to declare the reason for this condition.

"Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

In Matthew 13 Jesus told His disciples:

“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.”

In other words, a man with an unregenerate heart hates God; and because He hates God, when he is exposed to the Word of God he immediately rejects it and refuses to have his spirit illuminated by it. Therefore, that man will not be given more light (revelation knowledge, wisdom and understanding), and even the little light that he already possesses will be taken from him.

So, I can tell you without hesitation that much of what we are now reading on this topic is the result of comments being made by men who are spiritually blind and are nothing more than dead men walking who are unable to come to a knowledge of the Truth, Jesus Christ, because they have made a conscious decision to walk in darkness. God has simply granted you your request!

So, who actually wrote this almighty book (bible), that you preach to us from and (supposedly) live your life by???

I see it this way, people have their gods because they are afraid of going it alone. When something terrible happens or your life is just falling apart God is there for you,always. It gives people comfort and security. There were times in my life when I wished I could believe in God to take away my pain. I raised my son myself and when he was 21 he died in a car accident. Believe me if I could have believed in God I would have but I have always been a realist. I know we are on our own in this world and it is up to us to make our lives. It is not always easy but that is the way it is.

Good Morning mickojak! I wrote earlier that I would make no further comments on this topic, but since you have asked me a direct question I will respond. I really didn’t expect that all of the posters here would accept the Lord’s explanation in my previous post and admit that they are walking in spiritual darkness. So, let me put it to you in another way.

Let’s suppose that you are a 12 year old boy that is somewhat rebellious and has rejected traditional schooling, and you are instead driven by a passion to collect and read the entire series of Harry Potter books. You have begged all year for your parents to buy you the latest book for your 13th birthday, but instead they presented you with a high school Physics textbook and insisted that you study it daily. No doubt you would detest your parents, reject the book and refuse to study it because you think it to be nothing but rubbish.

You see, the reason that the Bible is rubbish to you is because you have chosen to reject its teachings, and therefore you can’t understand it. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says:

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Now, I’m going to let you off the hook. THE BIBLE WAS NOT WRITTEN FOR UNBELIEVERS, BUT FOR BELIEVERS…in order to encourage them, increase their knowledge of God and grow their faith in Him. The only part of the Bible which is dedicated to an unbeliever is the simple message of the Gospel of Christ which should be delivered to you by another believer, for this is our obligation to Christ and our fellow man.

The central truth of the Gospel is that God has provided a way of salvation for men through the gift of His son to the world. He suffered as a sacrifice for sin, overcame death, and now offers a share in His triumph to all who will accept it. The Gospel is “good news” because it is a gift of God, not something that must be earned by penance or by self-improvement.

Until a man accepts Jesus Christ and His message, he can read the Bible until he is blue in the face and he will never understand it because It is not intellectually discerned. Through receiving Christ one will be given the Holy Spirit to dwell within the heart, and then and only then will HE illuminate the Word of God and bring revelation knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures. However, men love darkness rather than light, and they prefer to live their life as a slave to unrighteousness instead of coming to the Light, which is Jesus Christ, and living as a servant of the righteousness of God which can only be found in Christ Jesus.

So, in closing I encourage you to NOT concern yourself with who wrote the Old and New Testaments. That information is totally useless to you until you first enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and then everything about the Scriptures will be of paramount importance to you. You will then seek after every word as if it were more precious than food and water, and your very life becomes dependent on it for its nourishment. That is my prayer for you mickojak!
