Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
That is a silly question, because left and right wing are not dichotomies.
I would suggest that levels of intolerance are not much different at both extremes. Perhaps the main distinction I would make is that plenty of centrist conservatives seem to have been captured by the blight that is Trumpism.

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Broadly agree, but applying the scientific maxim that life cannot exist in a vacuum, how does one categorize the influences that blight the left? Who is getting between the ears of your average "centrist liberal"? What handy label or pigeonhole can we use here?Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑December 18, 2023, 6:13 amAnd that is a huge and dangerous problem.jackspratt wrote: ↑December 17, 2023, 8:59 pmThat is a silly question, because left and right wing are not dichotomies.

Good point, I totally agree.jackspratt wrote: ↑December 17, 2023, 8:59 pmI would suggest that levels of intolerance are not much different at both extremes.
Is the centrist liberal that different from the centrist conservative?

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
I guess when we see some evidence that centrist liberals are being captured by a malign influence the equivalent of Trumpism, a label can be applied.
Until then ......

Oh, when you specified centrist, I thought that you were talking about conservatives who didn't support Trump.jackspratt wrote: ↑December 18, 2023, 8:16 amI guess when we see some evidence that centrist liberals are being captured by a malign influence the equivalent of Trumpism, a label can be applied.

So despite sharing the attributes of right wing nut jobs, the loony left still don't have a totem? A leading light? A Messiah?jackspratt wrote: ↑December 18, 2023, 8:16 amI guess when we see some evidence that centrist liberals are being captured by a malign influence the equivalent of Trumpism, a label can be applied.

Bruce Purdy of Queen's University, Kingston, weighs in on the debate and argues that it is the duty of police, not the university, to arrest anyone guilty of breaking speech laws including woke Jew haters.

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Interesting contrast. In the U.S., violating free speech rights is a civil, not criminal offense. However, "hate speech" (whatever that is) can be evidence/an element of, and provide proof of, a "hate crime."Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑December 18, 2023, 6:45 pmBruce Purdy of Queen's University, Kingston, weighs in on the debate and argues that it is the duty of police, not the university, to arrest anyone guilty of breaking speech laws including woke Jew haters.

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Why is the US Congress - specifically the GOP led Reps - getting involved in this question at all?
Other than to raise the ante in their constant pursuit of cultural warfare that is.
UM - hate speech is criminalised in many western democracies, including Australia. And appropriately so in my view.

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Hate speech, a legal obfuscation that's as clearly defined as woke. Almost.

Yes, but how do you define it? Don't I have a right to hate someone? And don't I have a right to tell him/her?jackspratt wrote: ↑December 18, 2023, 7:43 pmUM - hate speech is criminalised in many western democracies, including Australia. And appropriately so in my view.

Some sort of Antipodean stew there, no? Some define race only while others throw a sop to this new-fangled 'diversity' thingmie. That wiki mish mash doesn't even make for a decent deflection.jackspratt wrote: ↑December 19, 2023, 7:43 pmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_spee ... _AustraliaUdon Map wrote: ↑December 19, 2023, 7:25 pmYes, but how do you define it? Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
As far as the universities, I think their far left liberal teachers are guilty of labomising impressionable students.
Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Are university students more impressionable these days? Do the majority of the world's youth attend university?

Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Students are normally impressionable and most look up to their highly educated teachers. It is the fault of universities that hire those radical teachers, not the students. Universities should concentrate on education and NOT radical politics.
Re: Backlash over Congress Anti-Semitism Testimony
Totally agree. The university should cull their libraries and follow the Florida enlightened ban on books like 'The Grapes of Wrath', naughty, naughty Steinbeck (take back his Nobel Prize as well). New curriculums on Climate Denial, Foreigner Hatred and Increasing Fossil fuel usage should all be established. Physics, Enviromental and perhaps Medicine should be cut back if not entirely eliminated. White racial superiority should be an element of all courses.glalt wrote: ↑December 24, 2023, 9:16 amStudents are normally impressionable and most look up to their highly educated teachers. It is the fault of universities that hire those radical teachers, not the students.
