This isnt the UK's problem.....it isnt Ecuadors problem.....
Assange is facing accusations of rape in Sweden......he should go back there and answer them.....Sweden is a civilised, liberal country......its not like he's been extradited to Iran or somewhere similar.
Its up to Sweden to decide what to do with him,no-one else.

There is nothing civilised or liberal about Guantanamo Bay - which is clearly where Assange thinks (and IMO, with good reason) he will end up.Zidane wrote:This isnt the UK's problem.....it isnt Ecuadors problem.....

Or perhaps locked up naked for 23 hours a day in a US army/navy brig on the mainland, under constant video surveillance, with very limited legal access, on the pretext he is mad - c.f. Bradley Manning.

Why won't the Swedes question him in London?
Alternatively, why do they refuse to give a diplomatic undertaking that he will not be extradited/rendered to the US if he agrees to return to Sweden to face these charges.
Assange has agreed to both of the above.

Absolutely, what a stupid threat to make. Consider the implications of setting such an International precedent!God only knows what HMG was thinking of with the totally moronic threat to enter the Ecuadorian Embassy – that is the kind of extremely dangerous breach of diplomatic protocol that one only expects from pariah states; the consequences of setting such a precedent are truly frightening both to diplomats and expats everywhere.

There was an excellent documentary on this on 4 corners ABC Australia television, there is a huge rat here, lies and and obvious set-ups, he is desperate to remain out of the US and knows there will be no justice in Sweeden, a bit strange when you consider he only reveals untruths and lies, this will certainly become a huge issue and governments will eventually be accountable for there motives.

For those who may be interested in the workings of the Swedish justice system (as it pertains to Assange), here is the documentary (46 minutes) that coxo refers to above.

Manning 35 year head sentence - with a good chance of being out in under 10.
Result could have been a lot worse.
Hopefully he can make a few quid with book and movie rights once he is back in society. =D>

Any news on the brave banana bender? Well he was born up that way. Are the UK cops still hanging outside the embassy in large numbers? Maybe they have been reassigned to other work.
I trust he's allowed visitors including some female company. He could probably do with a double dose of "hello handsome man" from a couple of lovely Thai ladies.

It appears that there are no limits to the amount of taxpayer money that those in power who have had their egos bruised are willing to spend.

What a waste of moneyScotland Yard has spent about £10m providing a 24-hour guard at the Ecuadorean embassy in London since Wikileaks founder Julian Assange claimed asylum there....

Something they (the Swedish) could have done years ago.Swedish prosecutors have asked for Julian Assange's approval to question him in London where he is currently holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy.
The prosecutor has also asked to conduct a DNA test on the WikiLeaks founder and said the request was a possible breakthrough in a case that has been at an impasse for years.
One of Assange's lawyers said he welcomed the request but noted concern the process could take time given that approval was also needed from British and Ecuadorian authorities................
...........The prosecution had long refused to go to London for questioning and said the main reason it changed its mind was that a number of the crimes Assange was suspected of would be subject to statutes of limitation in August..........
