OK, looks like the Trudeau fan boys have gotten over themselves (for now), so getting right back on topic.

Here's another person's view of what's in between Putin's ears and why. I much prefer it to Mersheimer's long winded 'great thinking' who says it's all America's fault.

The guy in THIS video points out that Russians were behaving badly before America was invented. Small penis syndrome? My sister who's got a Masters in something or other reckons Putin's queer, but I digress.

Where are you coming from?

The free world has a fairly open press, they sensationalize little things, but I cannot think one the big thing, they have not reported well, Korea, Vietnam, the Iraq war etc. All reported that the USA and other Western nations that were damned stupid and aggressive without cause. The Russian media is controlled by the Kremlin, who has credibility? A free press or one controlled by punitive legislation?

So the free press, including Al Jezzerra which is hardly a Western mouthpiece, reports of the atrocities of the Russians and debunks Putin's lies, yet you support this war criminal's lies and massacres, war crimes and a flagrant invasion of a sovereign nation.

On what basis? Where do you source your info? Why do you know better than the entire press of the free world? What do you know that is false about live TV showing civilians being targeted? What makes you right, and every other person on this site wrong? How on earth can you support 2.5 million being driven from their home and thousands being indiscriminately being murdered?
Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.

I was reading an article, may have been on RT, how the the usual alternatives to western MSM are increasingly touting the narrative of Russia as the victim of western expansion. This has grown to such an extent that certain proponents of the fallacy are beginning to get access to mainstream airtime in the latter's misguided embrace of being fair and balanced in their reporting.

In the meantime, three EU prime ministers made a not quite officially sanctioned trip to Kiev to meet with Zelenskyy. With almost two dozen such persons in the EU collective, maybe they should start shuttle flights of PM's in and out of Kiev (while they still can) and see if Putin is foolish enough to shoot them down. Alternatively, a "peace convoy" from Poland, Romania, Hungary or all three? The UN used to have loads of white APC's and human sandbags in blue helmets to keep the peace. Why not now? Maybe Boris Johnson can stop pleading for everyone else to "do more" pull his finger out and lead by example? Oops...then I woke up.

Time to throw down a bloody gauntlet to Putin, especially now that Zelenskyy appears to have capitulated on their NATO membership. With that primary Kremlin goal acknowledged, there's absolutely no reason for Putin to withdraw now. Ceasefire yes but go back home? Not a bloody chance. Moldova next.

You would, too, if your country was being pummeled to a pulp.
My hat's off to the three EU PM's. More should follow.

I heard an American expert on youtube say Putin might take the proxy war into NATO countries near Ukraine. The Soviets apparently conducted terrorist type attacks against the Mujahideen in Pakistan. Putin and Biden have different rules of engagement.

Are the Europeans frantically trying to reduce their Russian gas consumption? They bloody should be. I read that Germany's strategic gas reserves are held by a Russian controlled company and surprise, surprise, the reserves are currently very low:
As Russia threatens to cut off the fossil gas on which much of Europe depends, the continent’s storage facilities are a crucial line of defence. So you’ll be glad to hear that Germany possesses a massive gas storage reservoir, under the town of Rehden, in Lower Saxony. The biggest strategic reserve in western Europe, it can hold enough fossil gas to supply 2 million households for a year.

You’ll be less delighted to discover who owns it. It belongs to a company called Astora. Astora is a subsidiary of the Russian state company Gazprom. Altogether, it owns about one-quarter of Germany’s gas stores. All of them are almost empty. They have been run down to 10% or less of their capacity. According to the German minister for economic affairs and climate action, these storage facilities have been “systematically emptied”.

Idiocy is nested within idiocy like a stack of Russian dolls. Germany has allowed private companies to control its strategic reserve, and has imposed no legal requirements on how much gas the reserve should hold. Nor has it prevented companies controlled by foreign states from owning it. Instead, like the UK, it has ceded this crucial security issue to a mysterious deity it calls “the market”.
I lifted that from a newsletter. I think it will be in a Monbiot column in The Guardian.

The Ukraine military is doing an incredible job against the Russians on the ground. BUT, how do they defend against the Russian air attacks? Why is it taking so long to create a no fly zone? Do the NATO members continue to allow murderous air strikes? It's way past time to create a no fly zone.

As I understand it , the WAY a No Fly Zone is policed it would MEAN NATO Countries coming up against Russian Fighters and that WOULD escalate this current situation into a possible WW!!! .
While I sympathise with Ukraine and their demands, upping the ANTE would almost certainly destroy Ukraine and many other OLD USSR countries notably those currently bordering Ukraine , the problem is I do not think Russia gives a damn either way, and until POO-TIN is removed no change in the immediate future.

For the Ukraine, it is already WW-3. Let's find out how the Russian high tech air power acts against NATO drones and cruise missiles. Those long columns of Russian armor and missile launchers would be quickly wiped out. I do agree that I would not like to see NATO boots on the ground. Cruise missiles and drones can be replaced but NATO pilots cannot be replaced.

You don’t make any sense. You want NATO to create and enforce a no-fly zone and shoot down Russian planes but you don’t want boots on the ground. You can’t have it both ways, you are either in the war or you are not.

If we created a no fly zone ,how exactly would we do it ? . shoot down Russian planes ? , not very practical unless we are in Ukraine . fire Cruise missiles from a NATO country and expect no response from Russia ? .that would lead to all out war. Not ww3 but a western war ,the majority of humanity don't want to get involved with a nightmare situation , Africa,India, most of east Asia are not going to get involved . which European country do you think has the balls to fire cruise missiles , Germany ? France ? . Putin has already warned of the consequence of that move. So any no fly zone would have to be within Ukraine itself .so yes boots on the ground, but not NATO.

I read an interesting piece in the Telegraph that indicates why Russia's Iskander missiles seem to be penetrating the Ukrainian anti-missile defences. They have started packing them with unarmed decoy 'darts' that have a high-temperature magnesium "burner" in the tail. This heat signature is acquired by the Ukrainian SAM's that are wasted chasing these much smaller and otherwise harmless darts while the the main projectile slips through the net and hits their target.

Another Armenian or former Yugoslavia genocide happening maybe. What is sleepy pathetic Biden and NATO going to do, yep just sit on the sidelines feeding the Ukranians a handful of help. Time for the west to get involved, fighter jets to fly from Poland Lithuania Romania & Moldova with the supply chain of missiles, logistics & ground troops to go in behind them and link up with the Ukranians. If it leads to total war, so be it, the world just cannot sit by and watch the slaughter of a countries population.

I hope I'm not duplicating here. I've seen TV evidence and read that these days it's possible from many miles away, to configure and fire a missle capable of hitting a building say through a 2 foot square window. So, is there evidence to show the Russians targeted the Ukranian theatre intentionally, or a matter of chance that building in a wider target area?

judging from the pictures of civilian areas hit either the Russians are doing it for terror purposes or their highly vaunted "precision missiles are crap... It makes me wonder why the Ukrainians haven't gone all out to get their Special Forces up into Belarus to hit those Iskander missile launchers..

Mikhail Gorbachev is still living. He is 91 years old. I wonder what he is thinking about recent events. Unless it somehow gets recorded in his memoires I suppose we'll never know.
