Car crash into Dutch Queen parade

Post by arjay » April 30, 2009, 7:12 pm

From the BBC News:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8026807.stm
A car has crashed into the crowd at a parade that included Queen Beatrix and the Dutch royal family, injuring many people, although no royals were hurt.

Unconfirmed reports said the driver deliberately tried to ram an open bus carrying Queen Beatrix, but missed.

The black Suzuki injured at least 14 people before crashing into a monument.

The royals were attending celebrations for the Queen's Day national holiday in the city of Apeldoorn, about 90km (56 miles) from Amsterdam.

From the above BBC link.
A car has crashed into a crowd watching a parade involving Dutch Queen Beatrix and her family, killing four people and seriously injuring several others.

The car careered into a monument after narrowly missing an open-topped bus carrying the royals.

No members of the royal family were hurt in the incident, in Apeldoorn, about 90km (56 miles) from Amsterdam.

Terrible action by a completely crazy frustrated ex-security employee. If he had been carrying a bomb in his car the results could have been even more disastrous, which only shows it had nothing to do with terrorist groups. Failure of the police and security as well off course, but it is almost impossible to guard enough against these types of one-man-shows.

Intended to happily sit and watch the Dutch tv with the family, Queens birthday celebrations are a Dutch tradition and also for the Thai easy to understand and fun to watch, normally we hardly ever watch the Dutch tv but this is a yearly custom. Then this terrible thing happens instead. I'm already a long time away from Holland but you still feel very shocked.
