Adulterous couple jailed in Dubai

A mother-of-two from Merseyside who admitted committing adultery in the United Arab Emirates has been sentenced to two months in jail.

Sally Antia, 44, originally from Liverpool, but who has been living in Dubai, was arrested following a police raid at a hotel on 2 May.

Her husband called police to alert them to his wife's alleged infidelity.

Her lover Mark Hawkins, who had previously denied the allegation, was also jailed for two months.

Both have already served a month in custody and will face deportation.

The Foreign Office said it was offering consular assistance.

Just lately we have had a variety of reports on here (especially about the tourist areas of Thailand) where tourists have been held for some minor infringement of the law. I spotted this on the BBC web site and found it a cautionary tale - that in some countries even acts that are not illegal in ones home country can cause issues..
As far as WBU was concerned - he pulled me up over my use of the words 'foolish' and 'stupid' - which he believed I had called him. That was not my intention, it was in reference to an idea he quoted. I apologised to him if my words could have been misconstrued in this way.
