I liked the comments section Aardy.

What a total waste of money spent on a foreigner who has no special qualities or talent. Least of all on a person who knows so little about our own nation or its people.

Surely O'Sullivan should have thought first before asking Camilla to represent Australia. It is not that hard to find a well known respected Australian to represent our nation!!!!! Better to spend the capital promoting our nation that would benefit our own citizens first and foremost, not some bludging untrustworthy dodgy freeloading foreigner who already has everything courtesy of their own poor tax payers. Especially a person with her poor track record in morals. This is an insult to Australia and her citizens.

The monarchy belongs to the realm of fairy tales used to entertain young children.

Careful lads. A fair few British royalists might read this thread and it'll end up getting locked if there's too much of a ding dong.

I think Prince Charles is busy with the Saudis at present otherwise he might have been roped in. I suspect he's as much of an Aussiephile as Abbott is an Anglophile.

For sheer entertainment Warnie would have been a good celebrity. I also think Mick Gatto might have been worth watching.

Camilla's not a ruddy Royal FFS! Another flaming freeloader on an ego trip.

Aardy, tell Buckingham Palace that you can't attend that evening because you're washing your hair. =;

It's only an add campaign by Tourism Australia and nothing more, just to suck a few more high value pounds out of the poms.
Any comment is good comment if your into advertising. On the 26th the poms will be sitting at home watching benny hill reruns in the middle of their depressing winter and maybe go buy an air ticket and escape to the land of sunshine downunder.
Thailand is to dangerous.

Bill Shorten uses Australia Day eve speech to renew Australian republic debate:

Good on you mate. Unfortunately NZ will follow Aussie on this. The way I read NZ politics is that the Maori are keen on a British monarch as rightly or wrongly they see the monarch as promoting their interests. Because of this it's going to be a slow and painful process for NZ to have a NZ head of state.

It'd be great if the Canadians jumped the gun and did this quickly but I haven't a clue where they are at on this issue. So keep chatting Australia.

I have my fingers crossed that NZ changes it's flag inside the next 2 years and that spurs us and Australia to further constitutional developments. For British readers, I don't see this as an anti-Pom issue and neither does I understand the Queen.

I see Rosie Batty is Australian of the year. I think that's an excellent decision. It's really easy to overlook domestic violence when focusing on the loons in the Middle East. For non-Aussie readers (her son was murdered by his father after cricket practice):

Well, I know her Daddy was an Earl she wasn't really a Royal, was she, me old fruit. But I can see where you're going, how would you define a Royal? If you're a commoner like Camilla then you're no more a Royal than I am.

I suppose my views are that the Royal Family set up a load of old tosh. Johnny Foreigner and OAPs enjoy the idea of a quaint, old Queen running a kingdom of stiff upper lipped civil servants but I feel the monarchy is a concept from the past. That's our very British problem, looking back instead of forward - our ancestors never did that.

There's one chap who has used his royal status to help others and that's Harry, the one person who grates the Establishment. I'm not convinced any other member does anything else to actively help the people.

So back to the OP, why doesn't Australia House consider not inviting Royals to their celebrations?

Here's a report from your favourite newspaper, Jack. It discusses events from 1965 but I believe the Establishment is not far from this thinking 50 years later. Apologies to Egg 'n' Beer Stainers that can't access the link.

Revealed: How Buckingham Palace courtiers tried to downgrade Winston Churchill's State funeral because he was a 'commoner

Source: Mail Online

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... moner.html
Dignified and solemn, and a display of all the ceremony that Britain could muster, Sir Winston Churchill’s State funeral 50 years ago was the country’s epic farewell to its revered wartime leader.
But Buckingham Palace courtiers were initially opposed to giving such an honour to a mere ‘commoner’, previously unpublished official papers reveal.
Their concerns have come to light as Britain prepares to mark the 50th anniversary of the funeral, which took place on January 30, 1965.

Official documents in the Parliamentary Archive in the House of Commons show that Royal representatives first raised their concerns in 1959 – just as civil servants were beginning to plan the event.
A record of a ‘Garter Meeting’ which took place on June 23 that year states: ‘It was clear that Garter and the Palace representatives did not appreciate the vast scale on which this occasion is likely to develop – at any rate as regards the lying in state. In this they were considerably influenced by the theory that the funeral of a commoner must in all respects be on a smaller scale than that of a Royal person.

The same document also refers to a proposal to include French and American troops in the event alongside representatives of the police, civil defence and Commonwealth forces.

It states: ‘Opinion seemed to be against this, partly on the grounds that the procession must not be larger than that of a reigning Monarch and partly because it would be difficult to know where to stop.’

Crikey, readers, how is old Westers going to steer the topic back on to Australia Day after being leered at by Big Note?

How about this, you can put your UK post code into the Australia Day website and it will tell you where the nearest celebrations are! Mine is in High Wycombe, I hope Camilla isn't there.

I've not tried it for Udon.

I like Camilla. She stood by her man/men when he/they needed her most.

She will make a fine Queen of Australia. One good thing is that her name is not Sheila.

I thought you steered the conversation away from Australia Day when you started talking about Harry........he's not a helicopter pilot is he? Then you followed it up with Buck House courtiers and fat guys.
Following that you announced you were old Westers.......how can I apologise enough I thought you were Earnest.
Of Course I recognise you from another forum....what happened?
Biggers holds no grudges, however, can I ask you, do you still wear two earrings and underwear to keep your ankles warm?

I agree ! I think she has had to go through some image rehabilitation but she has come through with flying colours.
