H.M. Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee

Post by tamada » June 2, 2022, 12:44 pm

I hope everyone has a great, long weekend.

The Queen has launched her Platinum Jubilee celebrations with a message to the nation that it can look to the future with “confidence and enthusiasm”.

As she expressed gratitude to the UK and the Commonwealth, the Queen said the occasion was a chance to reflect on what has been achieved during her 70-year reign, as well as for new “happy memories” to be created by all.

As the four-day bank holiday begins on Thursday, the 96-year-old will lead the Royal family and the nation in the celebrations.

Cannot argue with Tam.
Hopefully has a few years left, even if she has to cut back on the public duties side of life.

A 70 aircraft flypast just now, very good. I must say that it's far more jolly than a Putin Red Square May Day parade.

Really? What planet is she on? Hopefully the brief summary isn't the best and she was more nuanced than that.

Long weekend out here too.

Australia certainly has turned on the 70 year celebrations to join all commonwealth countries. We have changed the emblem ( with permission of course ) to reflect the wattle designed brooch we presented to her on a long ago visit.
The most iconic buildings are being lit up.

I note BoJo and his missus* were booed by the Great Unwashed at St Paul's this morning.

Cool.

Milley gets around doesn't he? I was impressed how he later apologized for being part of Trump's stroll through Lafayette Square to St. John’s Episcopal Church:

I guess Milley is being used by Johnson here (mak's photo) but this time it seems pretty harmless. He scrubs up much better in his formal attire.

"Boris Johnson has received a mix of boos and cheers on his arrival to the thanksgiving service for the Queen."

So not the "Great Unwashed" just some of them. Ernie.

Apparently we can't question a contentious message from Queen Elizabeth. Weird.
