Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
Kasikorn is NOT changing at the moment Git - well not from the ATM outside the Big C complex anyway.
That is checking with my HSBC account as well.
Also the ATM printout now has a "Fee Amount" line & this is shown as 0.00
I am not sure about Bangkok Bank as I have not used since the charging was due to be introduced.

Bloomberg about 9 AM = 35.32 keep in mind that is a rate for the high rollers.
KTB 12:43 posted FX 34.85 was charged 150bt ATM fee, actual rate I got was 34.62 or 34.88 depending on wether I include the 150 bt. Have to check later to see if the CU refunds the 150.
Kasikorn 12:51 posted FX 34.88 no ATM fee charged, actual rate I got was 34.88. If needing to use ATM this is the one I will use.
SCB 13:10 posted FX 34.76 Presented same debit card used for the above transactions and asked teller for the same amount as each of the ATM withdrawals, took a bit of time but close as I can figure I got 35.28 exchange rate.
So for me to get best bang for the buck -- go to SCB teller;o)

Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
I did my transfe in the aftenoon which could explain the difference, Thanks to the guys I found my way to go. After this month I won't need the American ATM card at all.
Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
from mike c on discrimination thread, as thai farmers bank was not on the thai bank ass. list.
another option besides KB.Here is what you do if this is really bothering you so very much:
1) Go to a Thai Farmer's Bank ATM (The green ATM machine) and insert your ATM card.
2) Enter Code and hit enter button.
3) Press upper right item on the menu (which is 'withdraw' in Thai).
4) Push the amount that you wish to withdraw (the word after the numbers means 'Baht'). If you want to enter your own amount, push the lower right choice that does not have a number with it- enter the amount you want and push enter).
5) Take your money and receipt and don't forget your ATM card.
Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
More BS!!Wondering who is telling the truth,The banks or the the card companies? If I was to make a choice,I would say the CC as when the banks announced the new charge,I don't remember them mentioning that it was fees that they were only passing on!

Banks asked to cut foreigners' ATM fees
By: SOMRUEDI BANCHONGDUANG
Published: 4/05/2009 at 12:00 AM
Newspaper section: Business
''The Thai Bankers' Association will ask local banks to cut fee charges for foreign cardholders using local ATMs, according to association secretary-general Twatchai Yongkittikul.
He said the TBA would hold talks among its members about current fees.
But he cautioned that any cuts would likely be marginal, as most of the fees represented charges imposed for international network access and simply passed on to end-users.
Since mid-April, foreign cardholders withdrawing funds from local ATMs have been charged 150 baht per transaction.
Dr Twatchai said the fee largely came from new transaction charges imposed by international service providers MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Worldwide to cover interchange network costs.
Local banks, which had previously absorbed the expenses, are now looking to pass on their own operating expenses to customers, arguing that the fees charged in Thailand are in line with expenses charged for cross-border ATM transactions in other countries.
Dr Twatchai acknowledged that a number of foreign tourists and expatriates had complained about the added fees.
At a minimum, he said, local banks should communicate better with customers about the expenses banks incur for processing international transactions.
"Local banks should give more information about fees on the ATM screen, and then customers can make their own choice about whether to continue with the transaction," Dr Twatchai said.
"The TBA will try to raise awareness about the issue. Unfortunately, right now many foreign customers have a negative view of local banks due to the fee issue."
But a MasterCard spokesman denied that the 150-baht ATM access fee imposed by many Thai banks stemmed from any recent fee change or initiative by the company. The spokesman said MasterCard last notified member banks in October 2007 about a 0.2-percentage-point increase in fees effective from January 2008 under cross-border agreements. Since then, no other fee increases have been made related to ATM charges''

Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
stan thank you for that report I think what we all must do is what you do write a check & wait for the funds this way there is only a 10 dollar fee which is less than the 1 % they charge for cash advance & ATM fees since you will have to be making a few withdrawals
Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
Inteestin if yopu raise enough Kane wht the word toutist in it ,might actually see some action. Sorry i donlt buy the banks explanantion at all. We all have been here longer then that. Truth is they never expected anyone to notice.
Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
Another way to get the hair off the Kitty for Americans. Bangkok Bank has a unit in New York, by doing a auomatic debit payment to myself at the Bangkok Branch I'm told I can transfer the funds here automatically and I would not be using a foriegn ATM card any longer.
Been paying the ex blood money using this method ( three years to go ) for years no charge from my bank and it has never failed. A little feed back plaese?
Actually I think this would be far easier then what I have been doing for seven years so they may have just done me a favor. I can alo redirect my retirement to the Bank of Bangkok in New York as a another option

No 150 baht extra charge using Kasikorn (Farmers bank) ATM at the complex last night at about 19.00 Hrs.
I also double checked my overseas account and no extra charges are showing.....yet.
At this point it looks like Auttaya Bank & Kasikorn Bank will be getting a little more business from Farangs who want to save a few hundred baht every month.

Not only to save a few baht, but to serve the principle of not accepting being ripped off! =D> =D> =D>
Of course,we might still see those banks go along with the others at some point!
TBA might scream,''unfair competition''

Re: Introduction of charges on foreign ATM wdls by Thai banks
I went to Kasikorn Bank on Monday 11 May 2009 in Nongbualomphu - No Fee. I went to the same bank on Saturday 16 May 2009 - and there it was - the 150 baht fee. Looks as though Kasikorn went with the TBA crowd. What about Bank of Ayutthaya - any one know the latest on them?
Since all the banks seem to be going this way, I think the only thing left for me is to go for the "Over-the counter" cash withdrawal. The only thing is, I do not know how to do it. I have a Thai bank account at Kasikorn Bank in Nongbualomphu but they said they did not have the swipe machine!
Anyone know if the K-Bank in Udon can do this and what the process is?
According to my USA bank, this transaction will only cost me $3 USD and is limited to the amount I have in my current/checking account or $25,000 USD - whichever amount is lower. Then of course there must be a fee for the local bank here doing the transaction.
Any help here on OTC cash withdrawals would certainly be appreciated.
Dave

appox shy of 100 kms from ring rd/kk rd, one way. no exactly worth the ride, probably cost the 150 in fuel in car or truck, or 2 hrs plus on a motorbike, and don't forget that flat you will have to get fixed.
