"what that means I have no idea"

The plane and simple answer is, if your financial institution has given certain transaction privileges to you the card holder, then in order to enjoy the benefits you are obligated to use an ATM displaying one of your banks affiliates.

I noticed SCB ATM at the night market has black tape over the Plus, Star, etc symbols, maybe they dropped their affiliation;o(
or maybe, plus, star affiliated banks aren't suppose to add fees, so that is their way of saying they are not really violating their membership agreements, since now, the black tape obviously means, they are not affiliated.

Yea, I took the black tape as a subtle hint they are no longer members. If Kasikorn is bucking the trend maybe I'll open an account with them.

Just checked my US bank account online and it appears that I'm receiving a credit for ATM withdrawals here. So it's business as usual for me.

If anyone has a few bob lying arounde, this would make a good test case for racial discrimaination!! Just the same as charging double for farangs at most shops and cetainly zoo's etc..

It tells the world that discrimination is alive and well in thailand and fully supported by the system!!!

pretty sad really!!!!

How is it racial discrimination? Are they waving the charge for Thais who make ATM withdrawals from an overseas bank account?

Since the 17th. I have made 5 ATM withdraws with my HSBC debit card & been charged once - by Siam Commercial. Neither KASIKORN nor UPCA have charged me.
The 150 baht charged by Siam was not refunded to me by HSBC - indeed it would be difficult for them to do so as the transaction just shows 10150.00 Thai Baht being withdrawn from the ATM, rather than 2 transactions - a withdrawal of 10,000 & a fee of 150 - so as far as HSBC are concerned I withdrew 10,150.

Jack I would not be the one to challenge it but let face reality we are being discriminated against
and on another note the only Thais that are getting money from abroad are the ones scamming those abroad with a minor few exceptions. In the mean time Jetdoc posted some important info if the bank
is affiliated with cirrus or star they can not charge a FEE some thing to ponder over

I'm assuming it is, my statement shows a an ATM withdrawal and the line above is the credit. My credit also offers free ATM.

30 Apr at Kasikorn....still no charge.

For the folks who have had the atm fee refunded: If you go online to check your account, is the refund shown at the same time as the ATM transaction? Or, is it refunded at the end of the statement period?

Anyone have any experience with Pentagon Federal Credit Union refunding these atm fees?

I made a mistake in saying that the rebate was for an ATM transaction. The credit was actually for an online transfer between my credit union and my BKK bank acct here via NY BKK bank. I had recently set it up and I was testing, it took about 4 business days.

git wrote:Well time is one thing as a norm I have. But since I'm limited to a 15K draw on my debit card 1% I do believe I would still be paying 150 baht. This week will be interesting, to see if Bangkok Bank is still going to accept my bebit card. My gut is telling me I better get up to spedd on intennational wire transfers. Mone is a real pain ion the rear First you got to fax it to them then you have to call them and verify it. Of course then there is th $65.00 fee.

That and no charge from the home bank on the ATM that was a sweet deal, paying the 20 Baht here was nothing. Don't you just miss the old day when they become the old days overnight
Mine is limited to $1000, but I just go to off the phone with my CU and they will temporally reset my max for a specified amount and I have 48 hrs to complete the transaction. Screw the ATM's and the 150bt sur-charge.

Dave. I would think anyone with a few bob lying around, would be losing more than 150bht by not investing it. So wouldn't worry about the charge. :D

Ok nothing but a rumor but I'm hearing Kasikorn is charging just no notice on the machine. The only way to tell would be to check back with yuo foriegn account. Bangkok Bank charges for sure.
