The link worked just fine. But, says nothing about ATM charges that I saw. If and I mean if this turns out to be government act. It's another great exmple of Thailands two faces and reaks of protectionism.

Of course here who knows who the Government will be tomorrow. An old timer when I first came here told me Thialand always shoots itself in the foot, hasn't been wrong yet.

I will check with the two banks I use. In the end I still like here and I'm not going anywhere.

These games in the end may hurt them might be better to just leave your money somewhere else where you are treated better.

Some guys will get a double hit ATM charge from the Home a Bank and another more expensive one here a well. On that end I'm lucky no charge from my home bank I was using Git math I have long ways to go before it's to my advantage to do an international transfer.

Stopped by a Bank of Bangkok today adn sked answer maybe =D>

No surprise there the government dpeartments don;t talk to each othre so why should the departmetns on the banks. I'll try SCB bank when I have time. For me it's a mtter of waht to expect when budgetting.

If theis turn out to be fact and really is looking that way ins't it. So much for gaining on the baht

Just saw this thread today. Ouch! As a visitor, no Thai bank account yet.

So, if coming on holiday, would it be best to revert to using travellers cheques? My bank is just introducing a foreign use charge on its debit card (Was free :( ) and i used to make small withdrawals every other day. It would now cost me about another 2,000 baht just to get my money the same way for the holiday. If using travellers cheques, would be about 2-300 baht assuming the exchange rate was the same as my debit card. just a lot more inconvenient.

IMO the only answer is bring your money in once a month and bring in enough to live on
I am going to tighten my wallet until this mess is over and I see were the thai baht is
so far I am not seeing any thing that make me happy

Ron. You may like to know the Singapore banks are giving 35.55 bht per $ and 52.44 bht to the pound today. This compares to 34.19$ and 50.56 at money change booths in Udon. This difference may of course be due to the long holiday, but in any case I would hold on until after the break. :D

peeked at the exchange rate while strolling by as curiousity in phuket, thought that was a tourist trap rate, apparently not. the baht has gotten stronger ever since trouble started, 35.6 yesterday, now 35.5. where are the pulling 34's from? thieving MF''s.

When I use my stateside credit union ATM card to get 10,000 baht, I always get 10,000 baht. My bank statement reflects the following (for a 4 Apr transaction):
SIAM COMMERCIA/T.PHO SI(U BANGKOK -283.50
FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEE -2.84
and my ATM slip (especially from SCB) says: ATM fee 20 baht.

In the 12 years I've been here, using a wide variety of banks/credit unions from the US, there's always been a 1% foreign transaction fee (whether or not it's reflected on your statement).

I'd be interested in knowing how the local banks are going to extract their 150 baht fees.....up front (as in, you'd only get 9850 baht instead of 10,000) or will it be through the stateside bank?

Presumably you will still get your 10,000bht but your account will show a 5$ deduction. Has anyone had this yet? Its an interesting point.

Maybe the charge to your account will relect the 150 baht!10,150 instead of 10,000.

Ah, there it is found the topic. Went to the ATM the other day and have been waiting with
some trepidation for the new "fees" to show up on my online banking site. Interestingly enough,
when I withdrew the funds, the line atm fees on the receipt said 0.00 baht. So I've been charged
the usual $1.50 foreign transaction fee but the 150 baht Thai fee has yet to be reconciled? Anyone
have experience with this yet? Capt'n kee-nee-ow wants to know where the money goes.

I have been charged the new 150 baht fee, but, today, at a different ATM was charged nothing.
It would appear that the banks will roll out as & when they can add the charge to the machines. So it could be a while yet before some ATMs are actually using it - might be an idea to 'info share' on the forum as it expands out.
The 150 isn't automatically dumped on you - you do get a warning message saying that you will be charged 150 baht for the transaction & do you want to proceed.

Bangkok Bank ATM (outside the main Big C complex) did not charge me today...
Siam Commercial ATM in Robinson Complex did charge me 150 baht on 19th...

Yes, it was kasikorn bank I went to and as you say, perhaps they are rolling-out the change at
different stages with the various banks? but definitely taking place at some atm's already. :(

Here's the plan, every time you pass an ATM put the card in and when the 150bt screen show's up, hit cancel. When they realize how much money isn't being spent maybe they will rethink -- no wait, that involves logic, sorry hallucinating again, humm used to have to take drugs for that.

Didn't I read that this was a government imposed charge on the banks?

If that is the case, I would suggest:

1. the banks have no choice but to impose it

2. they will all be doing so very quickly - software upgrades permitting.

Jack I guess they are not making enough money by inflating the baht so now they have to rip off the expats living in thailand by charging additional 150 baht for transfer fees I called them idiots on another thread I will call them crooks on this one

I just want to ad some were in here I read the Gov. has nothing to do with the rate I say B/S
I believe they are behind it 100% because if not they would stop it since it does hurt the tourist trade
but it greedy practice which will bite them in the end
