how do I set up direct deposit to bangkk bank NY

Post by mangon1947 » January 25, 2009, 4:21 pm

I opened a Bangkok bank account locally, but could not seem to make those folks understand that I wanted to direct deposit my funds from USA into the Bangkok Bank in NY and then have the money electronically sent to my account here. I don't really speak Thai and my Thai wife doesn't understand much English so I could not communicate what I wanted to do.

So I already have a Bangkok Bank savings account in my name only, but need to know who to set up a direct deposit through the Bangkok Bank in NY.

Anyone know how I can do that?

Thanks,
Ed

Depends on the source of your funds, i.e if military pension you can use MyPay website to set up account. For other federal benefits I think you can use Go Direct (I never tried it).

http://www.godirect.gov/Signup/How_do_I_Change.cfm

If not any of the above, than have to go through the main branch in town (2nd flr) they have the forms. Be aware that using this option your account will not be linked to an ATM/debt card.

You are not supposed to do that - although some people have had success on limited transactions if no human overview required (ie using on-line transfer with BBL NY number and Thai bank account number). What you should be doing is using SWIFT account BBKBTHBK to route using international wire transfer from your US bank.

If you do not have a wire transfer agreement on file with your bank in the US they may require you to do it in person. Alternative would be to deposit personal check (but that will cost about the same as wire transfer and take several weeks rather than a few hours).

If this is a US government payment it can only be deposited into special no card access accounts of BBL in Thailand and you have to personally appear each time to withdraw the money - full details are on the US Embassy web site.

This is a link to BKK banks transfer fees and on top of that there's 1% conversion fee.
