Best Bank

Post by kakariki » July 21, 2008, 7:53 am

Hi All
After reading the posts about visa's and transferring money and what the banks require, I was just wondering from members which bank they thought was the best to deal with, being a farang and I'll be doing the retirement visa maybe which branch and bank has helped you to set up and use for living in Udon.
Thanks Barry

I always give the vote to Kasikorn. Not a single complaint about them. I got the run around from Siam Commercial and 2 of them basically didn't know what they were about. Took a short walk to Kasokorn and the guy set me up in about 30 minutes, ATM card on the spot and passbook. 24 hours later as promised I had an email with my codes for online banking.

In the states Bangkok Bank have an office in New York and Krung Thai have an office in Los Angeles. Do you know if any Thai banks have branches in Australia? Might make life easier for you transferring payments.

National Australia Bank have an office here.

National Australia Bank Rep Office, 16th Fl, Sathorn Thani I Bldg, 90 Sathorn Nua (North) Rd. Tel: 0-2236-6016-7. Fax: 0-2236-6018. Restricted services offered; telephone for information.

I have 3 accounts all up , agree with IA on Kasikorn and also same standard with Bangkok Bank.

Also have a credit card with Bank of Authya ( no work permit needed ) done via a friend.

If ur transferring money from Oz Barry, it takes 3 days with CBA. NEVER transfer it as baht from Oz, always transfer it as AUD, as the Ozzie banks will rip u off big time for the exchange rates. CBA is approx 7% less .

Krung Thai has given me pretty good service in four different offices in three provinces over the last seven years. Consistently good.

Does anyone use Bangkok Banks 'bua luang' online banking service and have any comments on how good or bad it is? I just opened a BB account in Pattaya and the wife has one here in Udon so hoping that their online service is handy for doing stuff by 'remote control'.

Thanks,

Did some research recently on Bangkok Bank. They catch you coming and going with ACH fees from the US to Thailand. The NYC branch charges x-amount, and then you get charged by the Thailand branch x-amount. That pretty much sucks since they're the same bank and can guarantee funds immediately. I don't think they'll be getting any of my money.

I can also recommend Kasikorn Bank, excellent service and very helpful. In our branch Baan Houy, Udon.
No hurdles put in front of you, like insisting you have to have a work permit to open a account , that another Bank asks for.

Yes; opened a regular savings account and a foreign currency account with Siam Commercial bank on 60 day tourist visas.
The main branch in Udon were infinately more helpful than the other branches where "No, cannot" really means "I'm not quite sure sir"

Have been dealing with SCB at Big C for almost 4 years now...No problems and they are always accomodating.

I stand corrected, everytime I go in the Big C branch I never have problems either, but find the main branch by the roundabout extremely helpful

Hi Ron

I have a Euro Foreign Currency account, although an account can be opened in any of the major currencies. (SCB that is, not sure about the others)

The only real advantage is that as I still work offshore my salary sometimes comes into Thailand, sits in euros and therefore it's up to me when I change it into Baht. Needless to say I won't be bothering changing for a while but it worked very well recently when the rate was at 53baht/euro!!

Can I point out that I opened FC accounts with 60 day Tourist Visas in both Phuket, when I lived there, and here in Udon.

Regards
