Yes, a lot to consider, so have a look at the other sites.
I will say that for two of the three I needed for my new place(the ones used more), I paid more for inverter models, which I understand to be more efficient to run and quieter.

I tend to go for Daikin and would recommend them, though not the cheapest.

I have Daikin and unless you want to pay 14k+ more for the inverter units, I would not recommend them. Might save on electric with the inverter models, but I don't plan on living that long to recover the difference in price, and how long will a unit last?

If I were to replace one, would be looking at Mitsubishi, which was in a rental I had for three years with no problem and seemed to be quiet compared to Daikin.

I agree, I wouldn't recommend the Inverter units. I think they are more geared for rooms in constant use and with a constant need for AC, like living rooms. In a bedroom, I normally only use my AC for between 1 and 3 hours per night. The normal type are fine, with a time clock so you can set them to turn off later in the night, when you, the room, and outside temperatures have cooled down!

Well, I guess we all have different comfort levels.

My wife and I like the aircon on all night - and I know I'd be wringing wet if we turned it off. Maybe I'm just hot in bed. (I wish!! ) Two months in the new place and in spite of increased use of aircon over what I had before, monthly costs about the same.

Don't set the temperature too cold either. If you can, try and stick with 26C or even 27C, it's easier to acclimatise then. If you set it at 23C or below, then as soon as you walk out of the room or go outside, everything seems like a furnace, and you'll struggle to cope!!

Some AC's have settings that allow the temperature to rise by, for example, 1 degree C after every/each hour, so as the night progresses and your body slows/cools down, it allows the temperature in the room to rise a little.

Thanks Guys for your input, certainly given me food for thought. Where I rent now I have a timer on it so I set it to goto bed but it switches off after an hour or upto 8 hrs whatever its set to, and I keep the fan on during the night.
I agree about the temp Arjay, I have it around 27 which I find is fine for me unless an extremly hot night (hot season) and again only for an hour or two until im zzzzzzzing.
