Yellow Book: What Is It / What Does It Do/Allow?
Hi,
I remember seeing reference to a foreigner requesting and getting Yellow book for his house. I did some searches, but the results didn't define it exactly.
What is it?
What does it do?
What advantages does it confer?
Is it just for foreigners or Thais as well?

Thais' have Blue books ...
A yellow book shows proof of residence (nothing more) .. It shows that you are registered as living in a property in Thailand.
This can assist you you in obtaining driving licences, buying vehicles (when paid in full) Work permits, and pretty much anything that involves the government and paperwork ...
It's not a big plus point BUT it will help you if you want to stay here![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Get it! I had to get my picture page of my passport translated and had to put my parents names on the copy. I didn't question the requirement, just did it. The local big guy from our village had to vouch for me as well. It was easy. It is better to have it and not need it than to need and not have. I know that both immigration and driver license wanted copies.
Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em with the one they don't expect, and just keep hitting.

Cops always uuhhhhh and aahhhhh (sic) when I show them my yellow book.....then wave me through. Same with a Thai drivers license.
A few years ago up north, we were going to a national park.......the guard wanted me to pay the foreigner rate. I showed him my yellow book and he waved me through.

Can you get billing in your name for utilities like power and water?

Not sure which one he went to, but when I went to a national park in Loei w/ our Thai relatives, the guards at the gate spotted me from under a blanket in the back of the pickup truck, from a distance of 100 meters, and yelled out "stop, you owe us more, that's a foreigner, it's 200 baht for him".Prenders88 wrote:Which National Park?parrot wrote:Cops always uuhhhhh and aahhhhh (sic) when I show them my yellow book.....then wave me through. I got pretty mad, but I yelled out in Thai, "I have a student/ED Visa so you can't charge me extra!". They still insisted in trying to explain how I might still have to pay until I pointed at the actual ED Visa itself. They waved me through.
This happened at the Chiang Mai Zoo as well. They wanted over 2000+ baht foreigner rate. Show ED Visa, -get through at Thai ra.
![Confused ](./images/smilies/uhoh3.gif)
So I can see how a Yellow Book would help. You can definitely get bills in your name with such a document, -I had it with my ED Visa. Same for the Drivers License. But you just have to bypass people/ go over their heads to a manager sometimes, workers or staff on front line don't often understand.
Thanks for the advice, will figure out the best way to get a Yellow Book.
And will also keep working day and night on the electronic hyper-cloaking nam-jai forcefield I have designed for the express purpose of obtaining the Thai price for anything.

Well, now that the thread is already far-afield from the original topic, Nong Nuch Gardens let me in at the Thai price after showing them my Thai driving license. Didn't help at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, though.

I've heard that Medical Treatment is available to Non Thai persons if a Yellow Book can be produced, True/False ?
He's got his little y-fronts and he's got his little vest, Chaz Jankel, 1998. Mash it up Harry.

I have been receiving medical treatment at Ban Dung public hospital since 2004, when I got a fish bone stuck in my throat. They gave me a blue ID card, and the only difference I can see from the treatment the locals get is that I must pay for the doctor - usually ฿50 per visit.
Pretty much the same scenario when I have used the main public hospital in Udon.
I have never produced my yellow book at either hospital.

Yellow Book: What Is It / What Does It Do/Allow?
Well I finally broke down and applied for a yellow book last week. That is, my wife applied. I just sat there and signed multiple forms, which I had no idea what they were for. When it comes to dealing with the government I let my wife handle it. I just go where I'm told and do what they say. I have been mystified by the yellow book and its usefulness. However I have been told by some Thais that with a yellow book I can be treated free or at a reduced rate at a government hospital. I have seen this on this and other forums, with some saying absolutely not and others saying the opposite, but it never seems to be resolved. It may be a case of different provinces (or hospitals) have different policies.
A couple of months ago I had a blister on my heel that broke and started to turn black and ooze a yellowish substance, so we went down to a government clinic (not the hospital). The doctor cleaned and dressed the wound and said to come back for the next three days to change the dressing. When my wife asked how much, the doctor asked how long I have been living in Thailand. When my wife told her four years, she said "he is Thai, no charge". BTW I had not shown my passport or any other ID.
Again, last year when the local Health Department was giving flu shots to children and old people, I went down and, sure enough, my name was on the list and I got my free shot. I am registered in my wife's blue book.
So this leads me to believe that there are some benefits to being a long stay type person. It would be handy if I could pop into the local hospital at no or greatly reduced charge. Not sure I would trust them with brain surgery or a heart transplant, but I would use them for something routine. I am currently getting acupuncture treatment twice a week for which I pay 100 baht for a twenty minute procedure.
When I get the prized yellow book, I will present it at the hospital and see what transpires and report back, although I don't live in Udon province, so your results may vary, but it's a starting point.

Jimbo.
You also get a Thai ID Number.
You'll see it on the top left of page 1 of the Yellow Book.
Take to your the Driving Licence office and get your ID number transferred on Driving Licence.

A farang listed in the Tabien Baan? I don't believe that. Maybe you got confused with the car that you bought...
IF you were in there, you don't need a yellow book anymore. You are already thai...

A foreigner can be included in the tabien baan if he/she lives at the address usually with his wife/family etc., he cannot of course be the holder of the tabien baan but he can be registered in it as someone living and registered at that address, consequently some benefit can be gained from it.Techland wrote:> I am registered in my wife's blue book.

Right on Astana. I live at the address, thus I am listed. But not as the holder. Actually my daughter could be the holder as the property is in her name, with my wife as trustee. Not sure about that. That's why we give a copy when going for my one year extension, proof of address. In fact I think we would be breaking the law if I wasn't listed.

Thanks for the confirmation. I wil try to get that entry done.

Yes, that's right. Foreigner can add their name on the Thor.Ror.13 or so called "Yellow Book". However each amphoe asks the different papers to be submitted. Some amphoe is easy, some doesn't. Anyway you could give it a try if it is not too hassle.
Yellow Book: What Is It / What Does It Do/Allow?
Well today I got my Yellow Book. Nine days after applying. So now I am an official, certified Yellow Book holder, with all the rights and privileges thereto appertaining. So now I will investigate what those rights and privileges are.
I was thinking of setting up a social meeting group consisting only of those who have a Yellow Book. Then we can sit there and sneer at those dunces who don't have a Yellow Book
Next week I will try to track down the medical benefits, if any. and report back the results.
