Good point wazza, where is the proof. Perhaps some one in the insurance business can answer that, they use that data to set their rip off prices.

Thais protect their properties just as much as foreigners. In any village you will see bars on windows, fanatically at times ensure the padlock is on etc etc. Thieves will take anything of large or small value. 50 bht to a thai is enough if it gets you another Yabba hit. I am sure like me a number of foreigners have family members going to or been to court and the majority sentenced for, you guessed it, break ins and drugs.

By the way did we ever get the answer to the original post, who can supply security grills?

I don't care what the precedence of burglaries is, I have been robbed four times in Phuket and it p-ssed me off having someone rifle through my gear on each occasion, the last time was over ten years ago, our newish landlord has dogs with plenty of beware signs, it keeps the Thai's out, they are sh-t scared, its different for us in Phen however as the house is mostly empty, we only get there two or three times a year, a dog would get hungry, bars are the only option.
