Storage Units

Post by braddarr » December 1, 2009, 6:03 pm

I am going to move my wife in with her mother while I am away working. I would liek to rent out our house so that we can make some extra income to give my wife.
My question for you is; are there any places to rent a storage unit here in Udon?

I would think that there has to be but my wife has no idea.

Thanks for your help
brad

I've never seen one. Even if there were one, with the high humidity 7+months of the year, I'd worry about rot/mold.

Excellent biz opportunity for some farang though I think ;) Some of us do not have a harbour for a items when we go back home. We may not wish to leave items with somebody. You would think somebody here would create and advertise this. Most people that are here for some extended period of time, collect things, and need some place to store them when leaving, but paying for a flat/apartment to basically store a few items is silly, yet that is what I think happens most of the time. It is easy money I think, for the creative few here. ;) From what I see, not many creative biz types here, not that I am one I assure you.

Or just find a inexpensive house for rent and stash your stuff there.

Many renters come without furniture. Somebody correct me if this is no correct, but it seems that few people move furniture among houses here. They tend to leave their old furnishings in the their old house and rent or sell the houses as furnished.

Ha! I actually started starting up a storage company in Pattaya with plans to expand to other cities. I was to model it after http://www.pods.com and similar companies found in the USA. I even had a prototype trailer built which could be hitched to the back of a standard sized truck to deliver and pick up the storage unit. The unit would then be stacked and stored in a warehouse.

I killed the idea (my 2nd such "bright" idea for a business in Thailand) when I started running into the same problem I ran into with the first venture: Getting Thais to get things done correctly and on time. Sorry, I just don't have the patience to go through so many changes and headaches again. I abandoned the prototype trailer because rather than build it according to my design plan using a hollow-frame for the chassis, the guy threw in his own "bright" idea (while taking over 3 months to build it) and built the chassis as solid steel AND placed the lift too far back which made it weigh over a ton, no leverage, and completely useless.

Good luck to anyone who can pull it off.

Cheers!

Hi everyone

Keep it simple, thats what say.

We have dry and secure storage in the city suited to anyone who has anything that they want taken care of while they are out of town or the country for a few days or a few months.

Many have such things as TV's and DVD players and other small but valuable items which are easily "sold or loaned" in their absence and of course, may never to be seen again.

We can store furniture and motorbikes and bicycles.
At the other end of the spectrum we can store small items like documents etc in our safe.

Hope this helps

If a secured 3m x3m 3m (27 cubic metres) storage areas were available in Udon for a monthly/yearly rental would the members like to give an indication of what they think is a reasonable fee to pay for such a service

Hi everyone

Just to confirm that we have storage space and would welcome any enquiries.

Since everyones needs are of course quite different, for example, a motorbike stored for one year down to a passport placed in our safe for a few days it is best to ask us for a quotation.

Collection and delivery service may be possible.

Enquiries can be made by email to fuzzyken@hotmail.com or call in to see us at the restaurant.

Thank you
Fuzzyken

Thanks for all the incite. I will have to have my wife make contact on storage and a quote.

I too believe this would be a good business venture in Thailand. I especially like the PODS idea, since I have a PODS container in the US that i pay monthly on.

But as you know with all the heat and humidity you would need the storage areas to be climate contrelled and I think that would get too expensive to undertake.

Regards,
Brad
