Electric garage door
Electric garage door
Getting close to putting a door on the garage. Does anyone have any prices with sizes for garage doors - thinking roller door with remote control, but would consider panel-lift, bifold uplift etc. Any ideas, prices and where to go would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, John

Re: Electric garage door
I think that the place we got our roller shutter did mention an option of a motor drive. The problem with a price is that for the cheapest shutter ours would cost about 4,500 but even for a manual version in stainless steel could reach over 25,000~30,000 for exactly the same size, I think ours cost about 10,000~15,000. I’ll take a look when I’m back and see if I have the address.ajarnudon wrote: ↑February 12, 2020, 9:53 pmGetting close to putting a door on the garage. Thanks Jerome
Re: Electric garage door
One time I got behind a truck coming out of Big C which had pictures of various doors and a phone number. I snapped a picture. I will see if I can find it! I also have hopes of needing a garage door this year!

While meandering today I spied a Roller shut place on the same road as Home Cable, but nearer to the Roundabout on the opposite side. They have what appears top be electric foller shuitters. Name SP or SSP Shutters, could be worth taking a look
Re: Electric garage door
Thanks guys. That gives me two to have a look at - M P Shutters and S P Shutters. I don't think KPN Auto are in Udon now - maybe just Mukdahan.
Re: Electric garage door
Well, the garage door went on the backburner for 18 months as other projects took precedence. The electric roller door with remote control will now not go on the garage, but at the street frontage. Dimensions are 3.3 m wide with an open height of 2.4 m. Did a drive around today and picked up four quotes, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. At the ridiculous end was SSB Shutters at THB 48,100, closely followed by a local guy at THB 42,000. Both of these saw farang easy money I think. A better deal was offered by MP Shutters on the Khon Kaen Rd right next to the ring road - THB 30,660. But by far the best was a guy in Adulyadet Rd (card attached) at THB 26,346. He impressed me as knowing what he was talking about, and said that he could probably shave it a bit after he comes onsite to check dimensions. His quote includes 7,000 baht for installation - I will consider whether my building crew could handle the job at about 1/3 of the cost.

Re: Electric garage door
With our roller shutter we found a specialist on Udondutsadee (R2) not far from the LTO
They have different grades of material from thin to thick steel and a couple of grades of stainless. The prices vary for our sized shutter from about 4,000 to about 38,000 with roller diameter and plastic (polyurethane) silencing strips in the guides, quality of lock and lockdown plates all factoring into the price, that was for an unpowered shutter. Our price was about 16,000 fitted.
So unless you have factored in all the variables do you know that the quotes are for the same shutter?

Re: Electric garage door
That's a wide door.
I've seen less width doors blow in or kicked in, especially since the material used these days is as thin as.....
They only sit maybe 25mm into the track each side.
Neighbour used to "prop" his with a full width 3x2 hardwood brace.
Re: Electric garage door
If the idea on the Street frontage shutter is to deter people from entering then instead of a shutter as it were, why not use roller grill, normally slightly heavier gauge metal and not prone to bowing in, if however the idea is to shield the inside from the outside, forget my suggestion .

Re: Electric garage door
I agree that it’s a wide opening.
But the thin material is because the buyer asked for it and won’t pay for the thick roller slats, or went to a provider who only has thin stuff
All the parts of a roller shutter are variable, pay for the cheapest and you get the kind you describe.
Pay for better quality, get better quality.
You can get a shutter lock for about ฿260, they jam and can be opened with a screwdriver in the “keyhole” and only work from one side, ours cost about ฿2,400 has proper keys has never jammed opens from both sides and while the lock isn’t pick proof it’s as good as a reasonable quality front door lock.
You can get shutter floor padlock plates that are pressed steel, if not in daily use they rust shut, you can get machined stainless steel ones that never rust always open and are stronger, they are probably 5 times the price.
There are many more things that are upgradable from the cheapest, which is what you are seeing.
Saying that all cars are all crap, deadly & nasty because the Yugo is, is similar.

Re: Electric garage door
Quality does follow the price in some instances but not always.
The trick is knowing what one is looking at.
Cheap crap is more often than not the need for suppliers/manufacturers to make more money.
I remember how banks told everyone how fantastic atm machines were and at the same time withdrew counter services because " atms were more popular".
Supermarkets tried to do away with cash transactions claiming it was a bad practice during Covid19 and then, at the end of the transaction, ask if you wanted any cash out.
If you can't see the connection, look harder.

Well said.
Those who continiously drag out the "you get what you pay for" mantra are likely just to intellectually lazy to actually assess whether what they have is worth the price they paid. There is good value out there, but there's also a lot of overpriced garbage. Price and quality are often not related at all.

Made a few adjustments along the way. The width, that a couple of you have commented as being very wide, has been made wider still to 3.6 m, and the opening height reduced to 2.1 metres. The lower height still easily accomodates the carry frame I have on my pickup. The wide openinng is by necessity - the entrance is only about 30cms from the road alignment which is a very narrow soi - probably just the same width as the door. Anything less would necessitate a couple of backward and forward shunts to avoid scraping the sides. I went with the guy in Adulyadet Rd whose card I posted earlier. The shutters I chose are a decent thickness, the motor and the polyurethane guides make for a very smooth operation, and it comes with three fob remotes plus a wall-mount version for inside the house. All up, installed, THB 28,000 and no deposit required. I transferred the money to his bank account two days later (testing out time - installation now two weeks ago). Product very good, office service great, and the three man installation crew really knew their stuff and have the nouse to adapt and fabricate on site. Highly recommended.

Good for you.
Also good to remember, " the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a cheap price is forgotton."
