Liverpool FC in deep doo dah

Post by Galee » June 5, 2009, 4:19 pm

Naturally I'm not a great fan of Liverpool, but from reading reports today in the press I feel sorry for Pool fans. Their great club does not deserve to be in the dire financial situation it is in. I hope that the two American opportunists who bought the club are soon shown the door and a new owner will invest in the club to preserve its Premier Division status of being a top 10 club.. :D

I didn't realise that LFC was in such debt...   There I was thinking who might be pulling on the shirt next season. David Villa? It looks like it will be from the bargain basement... :censored: Tuncay? Wow, world class! The sooner the better those 2 seppos f**k off and hopefully someone that knows what shape the ball is and has Liverpool Football Club in their heart takes over to Save them.

The ball should be egg shaped.

But seriously, I reckon a few more clubs will soon start to feel the old financial pinch. Look at poor old Soton, they were in the Premiership not so long ago.

Yeah but West Ham shouldn't have been in the Premiership anyway, remember Tavez in 06/07?

Dear oh Dear,

Seems like due dilligence is not in the dictionery during off season discussions.

But will the banks be loaning this money , now with all that financial crisis stuff clouding the economy.

Maybe it wasnt the US Sub Prime after all, just greedy football clubs world wide who cant pay the fees paid to these guys.

Sponsorships are all being reviewed no doubt and that front place on Man U shirt is now Walkers Crisps or Chern Chims Black Pudding.

I think that you will find that Man Uniteds and Chelseas finances are in a similar parlous state.....and Arsenals only slightly less so.
I think Liverpool really need to get rid of those two squabbling Yanks if they can. Also,I've never been much of a fan of the Glazer family taking over United despite the successes of the last three seasons.
It might be in a couple of seasons or so that a multi-rich club like Manchester City take over as the top club in the Premiership and clubs that have been prudent with their finances like Everton or Aston Villa are in a top 4 slot.
But if Liverpool do go t i t s up (unlikely to happen) here are some possible transfer scenarios....

Torres to Manchester United
Gerrard to Chelsea
Carragher to Arsenal
Kuyt to Everton
Mascherano to Barcelona
Alonso to Real Madrid
Agger to Aston Villa
Benitez to Valencia

Ah well, its nice to dream isnt it ! :D
Nice to see Irish Alan and 747 back in town....I've not posted much recently cos' my PC had a virus and I think that the guy who came to fix it was only interested in picking up his 200 baht without checking everything out !
I've got the internet up and running but sites like Udon Map and Air Asia I cant access properly.....so I'm pinning my hopes on another guy coming out later in the week.....useing the internet in town for now.

Liverpool close to bank debt deal

Liverpool Football Club - which owes two banks £350m - is close to renegotiating its debt with the Royal Bank of Scotland, the BBC has learnt.

RBS has told club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett the debt, due to be repaid in July, will be refinanced.

BBC business editor Robert Peston says RBS will insist on significant payments in the subsequent six months.

It comes as Portsmouth's defender Glen Johnson has agreed to join Liverpool in a £17.5m move.

Our business editor says the good news for Liverpool FC supporters is that the club is not about to go bust.

"I understand that Royal Bank of Scotland has told its two billionaire owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, that their £350m debt - which falls due for repayment on 24 July and is owed to Royal Bank and Wachovia of the US - will be refinanced.

A spokesman for the US pair would not comment on the development.

The other bank owed money, Wachovia, has yet to make any announcement.

Latest accounts show Kop Holdings, the parent company of the Anfield club, lost £42.6m in the year to August 2008.

The RBS revelation comes days after Liverpool co-owner George Gillett agreed to sell one of his major assets in a deal which would ease financial pressures at the Premier League club.

He is selling his 80% stake in the NHL's Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team, in a deal reported to be worth at least $550m (£332.9m).

His fellow Liverpool owner, Mr Hicks, has also been looking to sell off elements of his own sporting empire - which includes Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and the NHL's Dallas Stars.

The sales will help provide financial guarantees to RBS and Wachovia that Mr Gillett and Mr Hicks have funds available for the operation of the football business.

Meanwhile, the club has appointed a new managing director, Christian Purslow, as overall manager of the club until a new chief executive is in place.

Mr Purslow will represent owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks and liaise with manager Rafael Benitez on his summer transfer dealings.

He is an executive board member and co-founder of private equity firm Mid Ocean Partners.

"His strategic and commercial acumen will be a real asset and we're delighted that he has made a long term commitment to the club," Mr Gillett said.

So Liverpool is going to Buy RBS out to solve the debt situation. I thought Gordon Inc did that.

Either way, looks like The Pool will be owned by all the British Public.

Or did i read it rong again ?
