Good win by both the Ireland squads in the qualifiers.
Republic look odds on to qualify now, along with Italy.
Northern Ireland are giving themselves a chance in a VERY tight group with some good sides all locked together.
England got about what I expected in Spain, to score would have been nice.
Germany lost at home to Norway, Ok only a friendly but....
Game of the night to watch (with all those world class players playing)must have been..
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
York 1-1 Kidderminster (York win 13-12 on penalties)
:D :D

The Republic's penalty was fortuitous to say the least... 2 in total by the Anfield reject.

3 points in the bag... =D> =D> =D> :-$ :-$ :-$

Sooth Afriga here we come!

You overlooked the other significant score overnight - Australia held Japan to a 0-0 draw in Japan.

Now only need 5 points from 4 games (including 3 at home) to qualify. Once that happens, I understand they will make an offer to the Italian national diving coach to hone up on the sort of skills that are a prerequisite to winning a World Cup final in which you should even be playing.

Results from last night's qualifiers..
Saturday, 28 March 2009
FIFA World Cup European Qualifying
Albania 0-1 Hungary
Armenia 2-2 Estonia
Belgium 2-4 Bosnia-Hercegovina
Cyprus 2-1 Georgia
Germany 4-0 Liechtenstein
Netherlands 3-0 Scotland
Israel 1-1 Greece
Lithuania 0-1 France
Luxembourg 0-4 Latvia
Malta 0-3 Denmark
Moldova 0-2 Switzerland
Montenegro 0-2 Italy
Northern Ireland 3-2 Poland
Portugal 0-0 Sweden
Rep of Ireland 1-1 Bulgaria
Romania 2-3 Serbia
Russia 2-0 Azerbaijan
Slovenia 0-0 Czech Republic
Spain 1-0 Turkey
Wales 0-2 Finland
Congratulations to Northern Ireland on their win - they now top their table (admittedly having played more games than anyone else).
A reasonable result by Ireland, although I am sure they were hoping for a win, but them & Italy are far away from the rest and should qualify.
Wales look doomed not to qualify again.
Scotland still have a chance in a group which will easily be won by Holland.
England ended up winning (4-0) a pretty useless friendly fixture against Slovakia but a win is a win... :D

Good win for England at home to Ukraine. Keep 100% record in qualifying.
Excellent draw by Republic away against Italy.
Northern Ireland win at home against Solvenia.
Scotland win at home against Iceland.
Wales lose at home against Germany.
With the exception of Wales all the sides still have a good chance of qualifying for South Africa.

Congratulations Aussieland on all but qualifying already for SA, slim mathematical chance that they could still fail, but very doubtful in reality.
Very interesting in South American qualifiers.
Argentina get thumped 6-1 by second from bottom Bolivia & are now only 3rd, 1 point above Brazil who have a game in hand. I believe the top 4 qualify out of this group - although it is tight for 2nd. to 5th. place, with Paraguay 4 points clear at the top...

Aussies beat Uzbeks 2-0 in a very lacklustre game in Sydney, left Tim Cahill on the bench which would make David Moyes happy!. Other results went their way so they need 1 point from 3 games with 2 of those at home.

Bob,
I wouldnt mind betting that Sven is in charge of one of the NE teams next season....either Newcastle,Sunderland or Middlesborough.....but not Hartlepool ! :D
As for the World Cup,it looks like England,Eire and Australia should qualify and both N.Ireland and Scotland have a reasonable chance,as well.
If they all qualify it should make for some very interesting viewing next year.

Well another good result for England.
Beat Kazakhstan 4-0 away, but, probably equally important second place Croatia could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Ukraine. England have a perfect 6 out of 6 and are 7 points clear with 4 games to go.
Republic of Ireland will be disappointed to draw 1-1 away to Bulgaria as Italy were not playing & a win would have put them top of the table. Looks like second in the table is probably the best they can hope for - something I imagine they had in mind after the draw put them in Italy's group & before the games kicked off..
Wales managed a 1-0 win away to Azerbaijan, but it looks all over for them - in 4th. place & having played 2 games more than 2 of the teams directly above them....
Scotland did not play & Northern Ireland lost a friendly 3-0 to Italy...

Well England thumped the might Andorra 6-0 :D - yeah you still have to win them, no matter who the opposition & too often in the past England have struggled against minor opposition.
Capello has certainly made them into a decent looking unit & Rooney is starting to look a quality international striker. However I think Capello is smart enough not to make England the one trick wonder they have often been in the past & it was good to see that he substituted both Rooney & Gerrard at half time in order to ave a look at what Defoe & Young have to offer...
Not far from qualifying now & any slip by Croatia & they are through....

Yep,you can almost smell the scent of the wild flowers growing around Table Mountain,South Africa as far as England are concerned. :D
I think Croatia and Ukraine have still got to play each other anyway plus they have both got to play England.
Well done to the Aussies.Lets hope some more of the UK teams and Eire make it as well.
