Hey mister can I have mi ball back 2013/14 season

Post by BobHelm » October 26, 2013, 8:16 pm

Well I watched the South Yorkshire derby.
Not realising when I started that it was also a battle between second from bottom (Sheffield) & third from bottom (Barnsley).
Sheffield have not won a game all season, but they had drawn 7 out of the 11 :shock: So no real surprise when it ended up a 1 all draw.
Dave Jones looks like he will be going down unless something amazing happens - like the sack. :D Admittedly it is tight down the bottom & a win would suddenly jump them up the table but they looked pretty poor in the first half.
Improved in the second when they went to 4 4 2 but that was something rather forced on them as they were behind,
The inability of both sides to keep the ball for any length of time was very marked after watch Premiership games.
A season of disappointment for both sets of fans looks highly likely this time around..

A great win for Scunny against the Monkey hangers as predicted by DM ..... now that fella is a master predictor .. an agonizing near 10 mins of added time due to the Scunny keeper leaving the feild to have a shampoo and set plus his nails done ,,THATS HOW ONE SIDED THIS GAME WAS !!!!..

Next up Chesterfeild .. who are top ..nay bother THE iRON ARE HITTING FORM on their EPL push ...

Chelts drew AGAIN 1-1 at Norfhampton

What the mashmeister has failed to mention is that Scunthorpe are,actually,only 3 points off the top of the table with a game in hand ! :-s That game is on Tuesday night away to lowly York City so Scunny could well go joint top....heady days indeed !
Of course many of you are waiting for the FA Cup scores with the League 1 and 2 teams joining in the next round.
The big game,Macclesfield v Vauxhall Motors,ended with Macclesfield winning 7-0 :D ....quite a few seasons since Macc had such a large winning margin.
The only real surprise was Conference side Forest Green Rovers losing at home to Bishops Stortford 1-0.
Selected results.....
AFC Hornchurch 0 Hereford 1 ; Barnet 3 Concord Rangers 0 ; Chester 0 Gateshead 1 ; Macclesfield 7 Vauxhall Motors 0 ;
Needham Market 0 Cambridge United 1 ; Nuneaton 0 Halifax 2 ; Woking 0 Luton 1 ; Worcester City 1 Lincoln City 1 ;
Wrexham 2 Hyde 0 ; Grimsby 3 Rushall Olympic 0 ; Brislington 0 Welling 1 ; Southport 6 Marske United 2 ;
Just when I thought our chance had passed,you go and save the best for last.

Just to make matters worse for Sheffield & Barnsley, bottom side Yeovil pulled off a surprising win against high fliers Notts Forest. It was enough to take the West Country side above the two Yorkshire sides.
It is very close at the bottom of the Championship though. A win would be enough to get any of the bottom 3 up to 18th. place & two wins 14th. Given others lose, of course... :D
The battle at the top was firmly won by Burnley, inflicting QPR's first defeat of the season. The Londoners drop to 3rd. in the table as Leicester win to climb above them by 2 points. QPR do have a game in hand though.
Burnley are looking good at the moment though. Only QPR have conceded less goals & Derby scored more, so competent at both ends of the pitch..

Massive game in England today .. for the football purists .. Chesterfield v Scunthorpe Utd ... lets hope Scunny can bounce back from their unlucky defeat mid week ... SO im going for 2 - 1 to the Iron

Carmon Chelts beat York today just for Mash ... also well done to Sothend who thumped Mansfield last night .. went to both towns in the past following Scunny i can honestly say Mansfield was a reet dump a strange twange filled the air a cross between coal dust and curry .... makes Sarfend look like St Tropez ..

Back in the real world ... Brian Laws had all the scunny players in for extra training after the York debacle .. Dion Burton missed the extra sessions as he was on a pre booked pensioners trip to Skegness with his 60 year old son ..

mash ...... LEAGUE 2 STATTS MAN

Big game of the day HAS to be the POSH v Mighty O's in div 1
Anything less than a win for Orient will open the door for Wolves who play Stevenage today and then their game in hand at Carlisle on Tuesday

In the Conference,Cambridge United lost their first game of the season to a 2nd minute goal at Southport but it didnt matter too much as second placed Kidderminster were beaten for the first time in seven matches at Barnet,1-0,and third placed Luton were held 0-0 at Gateshead.
Grimsby go fourth after winning 2-1 at Woking,Macclesfields recent good run continued with a 3-2 win over Wrexham and bottom club Hyde secured only their 3rd point of the season with a 2-2 draw against Nuneaton.

A couple of interesting snippets from the world of non-league....the first one very amusing ! 8)

A Wrexham fan travelled to Macclesfield at the weekend to watch his side play in a Conference fixture.Finding somewhere to park he missed the start by 5 minutes by which time Wrexham were a goal down....Macc scored after 15 seconds.....but the fan didnt realise this and thought the score was 0-0 when he arrived.
Wrexham scored after 13 minutes to equalise then in the second half Macc scored again on the hour but Wrexham seemed to have salvaged a point with an 80th minute equaliser.However in the 4th minute of injury time Maccs centre forward,Jennings,scored the winner and completed his hat trick.
The fan returned home and tweeted that he was "gutted" that Wrexham had conceded an "equaliser" so late in injury time.When it was pointed out to him that Wrexham had actually lost 3-2 I think he must have been "suicidal !" :D

And shocking news for the fans of Billingham Town on the forum.....
Billingham have apologised to their opponents,Stockton Town,after only fielding 7 players and losing 14-0 in a Durham Cup match at the weekend ! :shock:
Billinghams manager resigned in midweek after a defeat against Guisborough and several of the players told the chairman they would not play for the club any longer.
FA rules state a side must have at least 7 players for a match to go ahead.If Billingham would have forfeited the match they would have been hit by a heavy fine and exclusion from next seasons competition.
Northern League Billingham HAVE LOST 16 OUT OF THE FIRST 17 MATCHES AND ARE CURRENTLY NEXT TO BOTTOM with a goal difference of -53......blimey,"next to bottom".....the bottom club must be bad !! :-"

Ha, I knew I would get it right, eventually... :D

No league games today as the
The FA Cup with Budweiser - First Round
gets its' show on the road..
The Championship does continue..

Grimsby V Scunthorpe is an early, 13:00, kick off in the hopes that someone might be sober at the game other than, probably, the ref.
The mighty Gloucester City are at home to Fleetwood for what is a rare sight of First round FA Cup for them.
Macclesfield have a tough task against Swindon, but could make plenty of home advantage.
Town are away at Tamworth. The Conference side are rather depleted by suspensions & injuries as well. However Town have looked a bit of a shambles so far this season & if Tamworth can sneak the lead it could be a very long afternoon.

ITS D DAY !!!... Codheads v Scunny ..doesnt appear to mean much to 99.99999999% of the population however its life oe death for the local fans of both sides ... lets hope the claret n blu half of the area are smiling tonight ... Grimesby / Cleethorpes do need the extra revenue from 4000 visiting Scunny braves as this years tourist figures dropped from 14 to 11 people this summer according to the tourism board twas due to the terrible stench of fish and diesel residue on the beach.

Up the Iron !!

I would just like to take a moment to reflect on the sad demise of Stockport County, my local team.

3 years ago they were automatically placed in the pot for the 1st round proper, but after 3 relegation's in 4 years they have to fight through the qualification rounds.

Knock out in the very early stages by the mighty Rushall Olympic, who ere subsequently knocked out by the mightier Flyde.

I fear County will be one of the next clubs to vanish forever.
