Seems it was a bit too hot in the kitchen for young Bernie last evening. Can't blame him though. We escaped Melbourne yesterday at 9:30am and it was 38c when we reached the northern outskirts of Geelong just after 10am. With 4 days Tues to Fri forecast 40+ I'll watch the goings on at the tennis from Appollo Bay (200km south west of Melb) where it might just top 30c if we are lucky.

Almost as crazy as playing a World Cup Football Tournament in Qatar in the middle of their summer.
Was 45c in my suburb today (luckily I am not there and only had to put up with about 35c) and not fit for walking up the corner shop to buy the paper let alone playing tennis. The Oz Open should be played in March or April when the weather is generally perfect, accepting Melbournes reputation for volitility.

There IS a God in heaven after all!
First out goes Serena, due entirely to numerous excruciatingly painful injuries, which she was able to hide most valiantly during the match, while soldiering bravely on. Lest there should be any misunderstanding, Serenas, in tune with the standard of sporting behaviour for she is (in)famous, wanted it made very clear to everyone, her loss had nothing whatsoever to do with anything Ivanovic did during the match.
Second, joy being heaped upon joy, one of Serenas fellow graduates in the art of unfair gamemanship, and equally lacking in even the basics of social graces, namely Sharapova, was soundly thrashed, by the delightful Cibulkova. Sharapovas' standard ploy, ( as with Serena & Nadal), of calling time out for a suddenly developed injury, (but expressly to disrupt the momentum of her opponent), rebounded to her disadvantage as Cibukova just kept smiling ,completely unfazed, and battered her to a 1-6 third set loss and defeat. The only major, (pleasant?), surprize is that Sharapova has, at long last, come up with a new "injury" in her lower back which, hopefully means we are, mercfully after over four boring years, to be spared any further diatribes regarding her shoulder, when she loses.
Now, if only Azarenka could burst an eardrum while listening to her walkman, or sprain an ankle while rap dancing with her handsome boyfriend, there would be the opportunity, during this current Oz Open, for a much needed breath of fresh air and life into womens tennis. It would be great to be able, once again, to turn on the TV volume, and so share in the sounds and atmosphere of the matches, without being subjected to the demented screams of the few, which serve no purpose, other than an intention to distract opponents.
............................................
Zid, as THE acknowledged expert/connoisseur of all that is beautiful, may I recommend to your attention, and for your valued opinion, a charming young and very talented Italian player, Gabrielle Mugurivzza, by name. One of the breaths of fresh air, to which I previously referred, and someone who I forecast, with confidence, will be a top five player, and a 'majors' winner, within the next two season. Sugggest you provide a photo, for the pleasure of members who have not been fortunate enough to see her in the current Oz open. To that name, you can also add the names of both Bouchard & Cibulkova as 'comers', who are displaying both pleasant personalities and style, along with great promise as players. Add in the irrespressible LiNa, and the re-emerging Ivanovic, and I cannot imagine why anyone would want the reigns of the idiosyncratic and narcissistic duo of Williams & Sharapovao to continue.

I have found a SPANISH player called GARBINE MUGURUZA who has been having some success in the Australian open !
Are you sure you havent become over excited whilst playing with your remote control again ??
Anyway,I have enclosed a pic of Garbine Muguruza, who is quite pleasant on the eye but,for a beauty I would say Dominika Cibulkova would be my choice (pic also attached for tennis connoisseurs only).
