Everton receive immediate 10-point Premier League deduction

Post by Irish Alan » November 17, 2023, 8:08 pm

Everton have received an immediate 10-point deduction after being found to have breached the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

The punishment is the biggest sporting sanction in the competition's history and leaves Everton 19th in the table on a new total of four points.

The club said it was "both shocked and disappointed" by the "wholly disproportionate and unjust" ruling.

Everton have said they intend to appeal against the decision.

The Premier League referred Everton to an independent commission in March but did not reveal the specifics of the club's alleged breach.

Everton posted financial losses for the fifth successive year in March after reporting a £44.7m deficit in 2021-22.

Whilst i find this amusing i dont think a 10 pt deduction will get Everton relegated due to the fact this season the EPL has some really crap sides ie Burnley , Luton , Sheff U , Bournemouth and Man U ..

STILL ... just for you Alan

The cheating Evertons got off lightly it seems.

"100% in international break, Everton will get a points deduction. Great time to hide the news and,  this season, it wont be a real punishment given the weakness of the bottom 3. EPL.... bottle jobs"

From a message I sent to a group on Sunday. I'm not Nostradamus, it was so predictable.

Cock on samster .. =D> ... as ever Everton will escape relegation due to the fact other than the top "big" 6 and the usual hovering suspects punching above their weight the EPL is pretty poor this season with half a dozen clubs in there that are cannon fodder which makes games between the likes of Luton Burnley Sheff U Bournemouth Forrest and Man U all the more important for Everton who will survive another torrid season AGAIN.

Hey Sam ... Man C ...points deduction nostro ???????? whats your prediction there.

From The Liverpool Echo .....

Everton's points deduction stinks of hypocrisy
It is clear that the Premier League have sought to make an example of Everton by handing the club an unprecedented points deduction for their financial breaches.

While the Blues have admitted breaching the rules, the lack of fines for the six clubs that attempted to breakaway from the Premier League relatively recently - plus receiving a heavier punishment than Portsmouth did for entering administration in 2010 - has left a bitter taste in the mouth, as our Everton correspondent Joe Thomas explains:

The word integrity is mentioned three times in the 41-page report that outlines the reasoning behind Everton’s brutal 10 point deduction.

It could feature dozens more times, highlighted in bold, underlined, italicised or written in capital letters and Blues inside and outside the club would still scoff at every mention.

Few would believe those preaching for the protection of the game had a true understanding of the word. Their frustration and anger is understandable.

Six clubs tried to break away from the competition. Another club went into administration. Yet now is the time a regulatory body decides to bare teeth to this level of severity. Where is the fairness? Where is the consistency?

I reckon the EPL will find a way out of the Citeh fiasco. From what I understand they've been cleverer than Everton (not difficult) and, it will be difficult to prove anything without dragging down the whole structure which is in no-ones interests as other clubs would then need to be scrutinised (including Everton again 😀)

My prediction is that they'll get found guilty of a few charges, accept a pre season points deduction which will make it easier to plan ahead for the Mancs and receive a hefty fine (meaningless).

As far as Everton are concerned, I really hope that the clubs directly affected (who now include Southampton) sue the pants off them. I wrote a few months back on the EPL thread that I found it appalling that they were being linked with Gnonto and Harrison from Leeds. They've become a club with absolutely no class or self awareness as an entity and the EPL have bottled the whole thing by not acting when a 10 point penalty wasnt meaningless.

You mean the Foxes could've stayed up?

It is diabolical, COVID, Russian-Ukranian War, new stadium employing (thousands of otherwise unemployed scousers) ALL contributed to the reason for the losses BBC Football web-site explains the ins and outs. As usual it is the FANS that suffer. sick and tired of the P.L. Hierarchy!
